I'm sure that those who work, there, love it and have nothing bad to say.

I have nothing nice to say about them. They fired a kid I know....after not documenting anything wrong. He went on to LAPD and is doing great.

Odd goings on, at that place, even before that kid worked there, IMO.

I worked with them back in the late 70's. There was a small war going on between them and my dept. I went in and said "Hi" one day and we started working together with no problems. Back then they were a small, but good, department. Only thing I could think that would be bad is that they have one station, so if you made and enemy of a supervisor, you'd have no place to hide.

Its absolutely without a doubt, one of the best departments out there. The command staff actually stand behind their troops, which is very important. They are very busy, very proactive and they don't take BS from anyone. They take pride in their city and work hard to keep it safe. If you are a high energy type of person, who wants to work hard and lock people up, I highly recommend this department. They pay VERY well, about $30.00 /hr to start. Their FTO training is not easy and VERY demanding.

ODD is right! After ol' Ted Cooke left as chief( he was "old school LAPD", and instilled the "OLD LAPD way" into his CCPD officers) I don't know much about them other than they hold their own in the their city and that Pacific Div and West L.A. div officers don't particularly like them.Remember 2 incidents in my 20+ yrs with CCPD- one was good the other was plain old silly. The first was when a partner and I were releasing a 15 yr old petty theft suspect to his parents( both were yuppy POS that were more concerned about the interference with the social life that waiting for us had impacted).

Well we were trying to find the street where the kid lived and "noticed" a blk'd out CCPD patrol car shadowing us- when we found the address and made contact with the parents of the kid, we noticed the CCPD patrol car parked less than a block down. When we released the kid and started drivng off ,we passed them and said "hi" to them- the CCPD officers were all A-hole ville, and replied " we don't need Airport or any other L.A. cops in our city".

The nicer experience was another partner and I ran across a dui T/C after returning from a booking- as we approached, a passenger ran from the solo car collision toward the nearby Foxhills mall pkg lot- we put out the broadcast and got the "deuce" driver out ,thinking CHP would roll- CCPD "popped" up in a matter of minutes, and without a gripe or groan HAPPILY took the T/C/ and arrest, and sent a unit to FIND the passenger- they located the passenger with a small .22 less then 4 minutes after we told them about the runner. all they asked for was our names, unit# and suggested we hit " Johnny's pastrami" before they closed !:D

IF they have openings, whether trainee or lateral, knowing what I know, i'd say go for it !Expect a hard nosed FTO program, and I've been told that laterals are welcome, but are expected to learn the "CCPD way". CCPD uses Rio hondo Police Academy, and have used LASD-STARs

Pay is about $63K to $90K/yr

As long as we're discussing CCPD, now is a good time to remind those interested that the Curt Massey (late CCPD sergeant-killed in an on-duty TC) Memorial/Charity shoot is being held this Sunday (07/19/09) at the Angeles Shooting Range in Little Tujunga Canyon at 0900 hrs. Non-LEO shooters are encouraged to attend/participate.

I couldn't think of a better place to meet up with some Culver City PD coppers if I wanted to find out about the department firsthand! ;)

Correct. They train you "their way." Even if you come from another department and have a lot of time on. Its Difficult, but very rewarding. Make sure your personal life is free of any problems or issues while your in FTO. You will Eat, sleep, and breathe CCPD (even off duty) until you get off training. Great group of guys and great department. Its fast paced and a lot of fun. Benefits and pay are top notch!
