Well as some of you guys know that I've been applying for LAPD which so far so good. I got a 2nd poly and the dept interview coming up within a week. Here is the dilemma.
Right now I have to take another poly on Monday and a dept interview a week later. I know the background check takes a while and from word is that I might not get results back from it til mid to late Oct. Not a problem except for the fact that I get out on Sept 12 from the Marine Corp. I'm going to stay in if I don't get accepted to the Academy which starts one in Sept and another one in Oct. The problem is since I get out on Sept 12 I can still re-enlist until the last day and still get my $50k bonus among other things as well. I don't find out till Oct if I got accepted or not and if I wait and get out, I will have a good chunk of that bonus stripped away among other incentives.
Is there ANYWAY to speed up the background process? Anyway? If you can help or know of a way please PM or email me at arteaga-81@hotmail.com I know it's a long shot for LAPD but I'm willing to try anything.

Why are you limiting your choices to LAPD or going back into the Marine Corps? If you really want to get into law enforcement, there are many excellent alternatives in Los Angeles County alone that offer better pay, benefits and working conditions than LAPD. I'd suggest checking into this option before making the commitment to the Corps.

Have you told this info to your background investigator? If it's possible, they may be able to speed up your process to accommodate you, especially if they believe you'll be a good candidate.

You can also inquire at:
www.policebackground.net
It's a police forum run by an LAPD BI.

I don't want to be out of a job for no period of time. What suggestions do you have?

You could also look at the military reserves, then if you don't get onto a department just tell them you want to go active. The Air Force has the IMA program, where you only serve 24 hours a quarter and your two weeks summer camp. They will give you a leave once your are in the academy, so I'd also talk to all the reserve recruiters to see what other options you have.

+1 - CEB - I think you have "LAPD only" on the brain ! Now if you've lived in L.A. or L.A. county and know LAPD- fine, but you really are boxing yourself into a hole on this one- first off- if you were that worried about being hired ,you'd have checked off the boxes for ALL the L.A. city Police units (LAPD,LAXPD,LA PORT PD,LA GSD PD)~ "but" somehow I think you bought into the "LAPD or bust" mindset,or you bought the "lie" about "we're#1" LASD,Culver city PD,torrance,Long Beach PD, and a whole bunch of others could have offered you as good or a better deal-met a kid recently on leave from the air force while I was fishing on the charter boats at Redondo Bch- he has currently completed with his backgrounds at LAXPD( took him 6 mos) and has an offer from also in the chute from West covina PD(again took only 8 mos)-decide on what you really want,as EVERYONE is hiring in so.Calif(from Orange,to riverside,to San Bernardino,to agencies in San diego Co)......
