DLEE714,
I am in Class #35 with you! Thanks for starting this thread. I saw it last week and registered here, but it took a while for me to be able to post I guess. Good to see a post about our class on here! Orientation was so great this past weekend! I am looking forward to getting it all started on Aug 16th! We're going to be a great class, I know it!

Lux

Hey Santos, its nice to hear some fellow recruits from the class on here. This is a good way to communicate and get advice from others. I'm looking forward to the academy too. I went and got my uniform and PT clothes. along with some other things yesterday.

Is this for the Fullerton Police Department? They are only hiring part-timers right? I didnt see any positions available on their website? Id love to work at the FPD if they are hiring but Ive so far only put in for La Palma PD.

Santos, Well I get all my athletic apparel at sports authority or sports chalet. I usually get the nike or under armour compression shorts. All you have to do is get a marker and just color in the logo at the bottom.

Tony this is just an academy to become P.O.S.T. certified in the state of CA. Most recruits are sponsoring themselves through, hoping to get picked up by a dept. The Fullerton PD does send there recruits to the Fullerton College Academy though.

I myself am hoping to get picked up by a dept while attending this academy. I am currently applying with depts and I still plan on applying at depts while in the academy as well.

Thanks DLEE714. I'm excited about having a thread on here for our class. I've learned so much already from this forum and it has helped me with the application process. There's a chance I may be starting the academy in patches from my department if I get hired by then. It'll be close. The hiring process is looong, but I'm sure we'll see lots of people from our class get hired as time goes on. My uniforms should be ready at Galls within the next week or so, I can't wait. Are you in South OC?

What dept are you applying with Santos? I live in Garden Grove.Right now I'm keeping that info close to the vest. I'm in the final hiring stages with one particular dept and should know more about my status next week. I'll keep you informed as things progress. I'm getting together tonight with a couple recruits from class 35 to study the policy and procedures manual, and LD 2 which is our first LD we will have at the academy. Seems like every minute of the day all I can think about is getting prepared for for Aug 16th. Can't wait to start. I'm in Costa Mesa.

Hey Santos are you going over the whole manual or are you skipping certain sections?

JaySantos
07-29-2008, 11:23 AM
I am pretty much reading the whole thing. The policy and procedure section. I have no idea what they are going to test us on exactly so I want to be sure I know the rules and everything. Anyway time sure is going by slowly. I want to get started!

Hey Class 35, I am curious to see how things are going for you in the extended academy at Fullerton? I'm interested in the January Academy if nothing comes through for me with the depts I've applied to.... Thanks!!!

Hey Things Are Going I Guess. We Are In Week 6 And It Is Only Getting Tougher. I Suggest You Be In Shape Before You Decide To Enroll In Any Academy. This Academy Is Big On Physical Fitness, So Just To Give You A Heads Up. You Should Be Able To Run A 1 1/2 In Under 10 Min., Atleast 55 Push Ups, 65 Situps, 16 Pull Ups, 20 Chin Ups. Just To Give You An Idea.

Off The Topic Didn't You Apply With Garden Grove?

Wow Lee, you don't sound too pumped!!! I'm sure you'll do fine, have confidence!!!! I'm covered on the physical side other than pull ups & chins but I'm working on it.... How are the instructors? Alot of memos??? You don't have to answer if you don't want to.. Are you paying each semester or do you have student loans?

Yeah I did apply to GGPD, I passed their Oral Interview but haven't heard from them since. I believe they are on hiring freeze now... Did you apply too?

DLEE714

No Its Just That Its Such A Long Ways Away From Graduating. Its A Total Of 38 Weeks. Yes Memos Get Dished Out Easily And As We Go Further Into The Academy There Will Be More. The Instructors Are Tough, The Fullerton Academy Is Definitely More Of A Physical Academy. Goldenwest Academy Focuses More On Academics. Thats What I Was Told By An Instructor.

I Am Paying Each Semester. If You Work A Full-time Job, I Highly Recommend This Academy.

I Don't Think Ggpd Is On A Hiring Freeze I Tested Around When You Did. I Passed My Oral As Well And Had My Background Interview Like A Week Or Two Afterwards. I Believe You Started The Process A Little Before Me. I Went In For My Physical Test On 5/31, Then My Written A Week After That, Then My Oral Was A Couple Weeks After That.

1.5 mile in under 10 minutes? I highly doubt the majority of the class can do that.

DLEE714
10-13-2008, 01:14 AM
Your right most of the class cannot. That is why you want to be in good shape before hand. They would rather see that you have prepared yourself for the academy. We only have a few people that can and they were not happy most of the class was not in better shape.

DLEE714
10-13-2008, 01:20 AM
Hey Big Rich I just wish the academy was shorter, 10 months feels like forever. Well since we have started we are down a few people. We began with 52 people and now we have 49. Academically its getting tougher and the physical fitness isn't easy either. Were starting to learn a lot of weaponless defense techniques and report writing right now.

It was good. eight of us passed. Somewhat similar to the ca post test, 90 question in an hour. Investigator let everyone know they were in terrible shape.

Only 8 of you passed!!! How many people attended? Is there a CLOZE portion?? Which part do you do first, PAT or written? Thanks!!!

They do the written portion first, then take you out to the track for the PAT. Most people do not pass because they cannot do the mile and a half in 13 min or under. They combine the push-ups/sit-ups/and mile and a half to find out if you have a passing score.

For example: if you run slow, you need to complete more push-ups and sit-ups.

If you run fast, then you can afford to run a little slower and still possibly pass.

Good Luck.

Yes.18 attended, and 10 were excused for not passing. No cloze section of the test.
Definitions, reading comprehension, proper grammar, sequencing of events rounded out the test.

Hey JSL,
Do you need you need to registar with the college and pay $35 to take the test or is that only the case after you pass the written & PAT? Thanks!

BossMan1364

Yes, you need to pay the money to the college for the entrance exam. I do not remember how much it was but in order to participate, you must pay after registering.

Are there specifics to memorize for the academy orientation weekend in a few weeks on November 22 and 23rd? Codes? Officer creeds? The instructor didn't say specifically. I'm somewhat familiar with being at attention, how to answer properly, etc. PM me if anyone else is scheduled to be there. Thanks

I plan on attending the written test this weekend but I doubt that you will have to know any of that stuff before orientation, on the first day that will be a different story!

Hey, congrats on passing the test. As far as needing to know anything specific, not really. Just make sure you look sharp in professional business attire and act like you want to be there. I can't spoil all the fun for you and tell you EXACTLY what happens, but just don't stress. Everything they do to you in the academy has a purpose.

TAC staff does not expect anything to be memorized on orientation. How would anyone know what needed to be memorized before showing up? On Nov 22 and Nov 23, show up eager and ready to go. Answer up with "YES SIR" anytime you are spoken to, or think you are spoken to and you will do great.

Good luck and I'll see you out there.

TO ALL MEMBERS OF CLASS #36

First, let me introduce myself...I'm a proud member of Class #35. It's good to see some of you on here that will be starting the academy soon. This is a great place to come for information. My class, #35, started back in August and it seems like the time is going by so fast!

From what I read in your posts, it sounds like your Orientation is coming up. Congrats! Can't wait to see your full class there in late November. Be ready. Get your business suit squared away, and look professional. If you don't, you will stand out and be singled out. That's not a good thing. Make a good first impression. Sound off! Answer up when spoken to. YES SIR, etc. Don't move around in formation, stand tall, and look like you want to be there! Orientation is not so bad....lots of information will be passed on to you. The stress level isn't too bad on those days. Once the academy actually starts though, you are in for lots of fun! Never arrive late, never lie, always bring the proper uniform and gear with you, always sound off, and always respect your classmates. Coming together as a class is the biggest challenge you will have.

The academy kicks ***! You'll learn so much so fast and it's really motivating! Always stay positive. Start running now! You will do a lot of running, PT, and upper body exercises. As each week goes by, it only gets harder. No matter how difficult it seems at times, always remember this.....thousands of recruits have gone before you and made it....and thousands will make it after you also. There is no reason why you can't make it also.

Hope to see you all soon. The senior class (Class #35) is a great class, and we'll be here to help you all. Once you start the academy, feel free to ask for help or ask questions or whatever. We'll do our best to help. You are in for a long journey, so get prepared now. See you soon....

FCPA doesn't need any specific notes so the general ones will work fine for you. It's only the academies that make you memorize endless speeches that I worry about making specific note sets for. You guys who had to memorize them know the academies I'm talking about.

I'm signed up with the group but don't see anything for Fullerton Police Academy notes? Is it under something else?
