Jacked up thing is if you WANT a new 3G and you're a current ATT customer you have to WAIT until you're "eligible for an upgrade" to buy one at $199, otherwise you're going to pay $499 for the 8GB....

There are times when I wish I had a phone available, but usually I'm happy that no one can call and disturb me :D.
When you have a pickup truck, many people say, "Dude, why'd you get a truck?" But three days later they'll try to call you and say, "Dude, I'm moving, you mind if I use your truck for a day?"
I don't mind helping people move if they need a truck, but I don't like letting others borrow my car, except the couple REALLY good friends. And not only that, I understand if you need it to move a couch, but come on, not your tiny dorm frig!

People waiting in line since 4:30 in the morning, verbal arguments over who was standing where, getting upset with Store Employees who opened the store 2 minutes after 8 am, then to go home with the phone and realize the network is jammed because everyone is trying to active their iPhone....tell me, does this phone cure cancer?
Just curious!
I'm eligible to upgrade in December...I'm thinking about getting one :D

Bawahahahahaha!!!!
Agree 100%......
After my last phone died a rather horrible death (fell under a bus...literally), I went to Sprint to replace it.......
The clerk looked very confused when I told him all I needed was a PHONE......he kept trying to steer me towards something with all the do-dads on it..........and swallowed nervously when my evil twin step brother growled "what part of PHONE did you not understand?"
That was 3 years ago, and it still works fine.....now Sprint keeps bugging me to upgrade it.....
Well I for one get tired of carrying both an MP3 Player AND a phone with me everywhere. It'll be nice to have it in one package.

Thanks.

Sorry to offend you Sam, won't use that word again...
That phone is pretty cool and all, but I won't camp out side a store for it...If you have a job in which you have to keep in touch w/ clients, your bosses ect, then the phone could come in handy...Also if you're in an airport or somewhere you can just sit back and listen to music, play game, surf the web, and so on...Nice phone and all but to much money$$$$....Correct me if I'm wrong, but you have to pay extra for those features,right?...

When you've had your current phone for a certain length of time, or when your contract comes up for renewal generally. . .
I just switched to ATT and love it (compared to Nextel), but I am not an Apple fan . . . so no iphones for me . . .
Have made the switch to MAC and will never look back. Much more stable, reliable and easier to use, once your get accustomed to it.

Guys, guys, save your money on cell phones.
Buy a microphone for your computer, pay 2.95 a month for Skype and you can call anywhere in Canada and the U.S.
There's only a 10,000 minute limit though :(.

See, that's my thing....
I'd like to get a fancy cell.... but I know they just won't hold up (or they're WAY too expensive to get fixed/replaced) in a struggle.... or simply dropping the damn thing when I climb out of the car.

Went to one of the local AT&T stores the Monday after the original I-phones came out. (They came out Saturday, and I went in on Monday.)
Had to get a new phone because the display pooped out on my old one.
Wanted a Razr, and the clerk tried to talk me into an I-phone. Nope, just want a Razr. Besides I don't NEED all the features on that $600 I-phone, nor do I want to have to pay AT&T for all those fancy features that I don't want and won't use anyway.
The clerk then tells me, "Oh, but it won't cost you $600, it's only $199." This was on the third day they were out.
Wow, I'll bet all the folks that paid $600 for one over the past two days would LOVE to hear that.
Left with my Razr V3, and love it. Besides, after the rebate, it only cost me 50 bucks.
They can keep their I-phones.

The only reason it would have been $199 was because you were eligble for an upgrade or were out of your current contract. . .
Actually I wasn't eligible for an upgrade for another five months. They tried to sell me a replacement phone at full price because I wasn't eligible. I raised enough hell and reminded them that I've been an AT&T customer (and before that, Cingular, and before that, Bell South for over fifteen years) and the way they treat long-time customers is a rip-off . They finally agreed to sell me the new one at the "upgrade" price. And of course, renew my contract for another two years. (Another rip-off.)
Of course, the fact that I was making major waves in front of a store full of customers and potential customers, they just wanted me and my mouth out of there. Guess the truth was hurting too much.
I've bought at least six different phones from them over the years (usually every time I was eligible for an upgrade), and since the one I had broke, I needed to either get that one repaired, or buy a replacement.
Of COURSE, they "couldn't" repair my old one. (Yeah - RIGHT!) (BUT they would be happy to sell me a new one.)
Amazing thing is I can go to cellphoneshop.com and order a new display and change it myself (if I was brave enough to try it), but the AT&T techs CAN'T? Again - yeah, RIGHT!
Of course, that way they get to sell more new phones. Convenient, ain't it?

I waited in line for 4 hours on Friday and left with my $199 iPhone. I didn't get the original as I wanted GPS, and I figured the second generation model would have some kinks worked out.
Is it perfect? Nope. Are there things I'd change? Yup. Do I hate greedy cell phone companies, including ATT? Absolutely.
Is the iPhone the best phone I've ever used? Hands-down YES.
I'd love to hear of another phone were the average person can use 10 features of the phone with no instructions, besides direct dialing a number, as easily as one can on an iPhone.
If using a cellphone for dialing a number is all you want, good for you. I want to carry my music with me, my OT/court/details/schedule, my address book, e-mail/web, AND a phone. For me (and many), the iPhone is the best way to do this. It works seamlessly with my MacPro, MacBook Pro, and MobileMe account. Everything is synced.
The programs available in the new Application Store are amazing and will be huge time savers for me (and some time wasters too). As far as I'm concerned, it's the best $200 I've spent in a while.

I have the original iPhone, and there are only a couple things that bug me about it.
Does the 3g iPhone have MMS capability? Does the web browser now support Flash?

No MMS. One reason I'm still holding off on getting it. Apple believes that SMS is the only way to do things and will FORCE everyone to change by not allowing MMS to run on their systems. Of course that allows ATT to rip you off more by CHARGING you for SMS.... gotta love capitalism ;)

Don't you find the ATT coverage less than acceptable in NoVA/DC?? I had to get rid of it.

Flash will hopefully be released... it is annoying not to have it for some web sites.
MMS and SMS are dying. Unlimited data plans will ensure their demise, as well as the ability to access WiFi and use third party clients like AIM, Adium, Google Talk, etc. Once the majority of phones have similar features as the iPhone and Blackberry devices, I predict SMS and MMS will go the way of the Dodo. Of course, the cell phone companies don't want to hear that because they enjoy raping customers for every last penny.
With that said, can anyone explain why I can download a 3gig movie for free on my cell plan, BUT, if I send SMS messages I have to pay, even if they're only 1kb in size?

I haven't had any problems at all. I switched from Nextel, which truly sucked. I always have full service with AT&T, except when I'm in the Pentagon...but that's another issue...
