Yesterday I got the "thin letter" telling me I was disqualified after the psych. Feeling a little bummed out, especialy after being so close.

My question to everyone is, what is the success rate of a psych apeal? Anyone gone through this and made it through?

I know two buddies who were DQ'd for the same reason. One buddy went through the appeal process two times and was finally hired. He had to fork out the money for the second and third opinions but he's 10-8 now and happy. The other buddy paid for the second opinion and still got denied. He just got hired by LAPD though. I guess you have to weigh the pros and cons of an appeal and go from there. Good luck...

Very encouraging to hear that it's possible to still make it after being disqualifIed. Although I respect the psych dr I strongly dissagree with his results and I really feel that I have the right mind set to be a DS. I'm going to go for it and apeal it.

I second what 1tyme said .. My buddy got a second opinion on his and won the appeal.. It just cost him $300 .. That written psych test is crazy (no pun intended)

Many LASD candidates are getting DQ'd for the psych as well. Most of these psych DQ's involve a "lack of life experience." I hear most have been overturned, but it required the hiring of a private psych, a retest on the MMPI, an interview by the private doc and another interview with a County psych.

It's worth it!!! Don't give up!!!!!!!

+1 on not giving up! If you really want this job, or to survive in it long enough to retire, you must develop the attitude that you will persevere. I'm not sure what the psych D.Q.s are for, but after watching "The Academy" for a few weeks the "lack of life experience" is something that most of the trainees (in Los Angeles County at least) seem to have in common.

Psych exams are a really funny thing in this profession. Years ago, my agency used a psychologist who D.Q.'d a very significant number of otherwise qualified applicants. Some of these were reserve officers who did well within our department and performed exceptionally well when they were hired elsewhere. During the same time period, the same psychologist approved several officers who were unqualified (psychologically) to ever wear a badge. Several of those who made it through probation, went on to leave under extremely questionable circumstances.

Later, we changed psychologists and our hiring process was much more in line with departmental needs. I have serious doubts about the criteria being used to pick the "most qualified" or D.Q. those who don't find the mold and wonder how much of psychology (pertaining to pre-employment testing) is true science vs art.

I know a couple of officers that didnt pass the psych at one department and then passed it at another so it all depends. It never hurts to try again

Did you get the offer after passing your poly? At your next interview with your B/I.

Congrats on that offer, I'll be right there with you, just a small hurdle to overcome with 2nd POLY, I think you were there on the 8th when I was there. So at least they are moving quickly after passing the POLY. Sept. 2nd coming real soon...

Have you guys done oral board interviews with riverside as I don't see any mention of that in your application timeline? Have they eliminated the oral boards since they're trying to hire so many new deputies? Thanks.

I've been told that we don't have a rated oral interview because it was "ineffective" in hiring qualified candidates. I don't know what this means...I have heard, however, that the lack of a true rated interview gives the interviewer(s) more latitude in making their decision to hire someone they feel would be appropriate for DST...I still don't understand it.

I spoke with a RSO recruiter yesterday and asked him if maybe I got DQ'ed due to "lacking life experiance" and he said that they don't DQ anyone based on that. The good news is he also told me that although my chances for appealing are slim there is a possibility that I can get recomended to be a correctional officer. And im very open to that idea because it will bring me closer to my dream of someday being a Deputy. I already sent in my letter for request of an appeal but I would still like to talk to my BI to see what he recomends. I know he must be very busy right now but I wish he would answer his phone or return my voice mails. I've been trying for over a week.

I too was DQ on the psychological back in May. I went through the appeal process and took my second psychological about two weeks ago and passed. I am now waiting for my 3rd psychological which I should have it done by the end of the month, so my advice is go for it you made it this far don't quit now.

Riverside makes you pay for your second if you pass it then you got to take a 3rd paid for pay Riverside.

There is a treadmill but it's just a brisk walk.

the treadmill might be a case by case basis, I passed the medical a month ago with no treadmill but I did see one at the facility.

I'm going for my Psyc interview soon, for the CHP. It's the last step in the process for me, and I am nervous! Good luck with your appeals.
