I have been carrying Glock for a number of years and now our Dept. wants to change to sig in .45 cal. I am left handed and I don't believe that the sig has an ambidextrous safety. anyone out there have any experience with the sig, maybe you can educate me a little more. :D

The Sig dosent really have a saftey. It has a "hammer drop.". It disconnects the hammer.

Lets say you pull it on someone. You can do two things. You can manually thumb the hammer back for a easier first shot or you can simply squeeze the trigger. If you thumb the hammer back and you decide to holster the pistol, you simply activate the hammer drop and it drops the hammer.

Otherwise, all you ever have to do is squeeze the trigger. There is no saftey on it as there is on other pistols. The system is really very simple and safe. Just remember one of the first rules of saftey when you shoot. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.

Thumbing the hammer back gives you a single action trigger pull, its shorter and easier than the standard double action pull.

If you have to cover a perp that is being cuffed, just keep your finger off the trigger
and you'll have no problems. I carry the P220 on duty and I love it. Its very accurate, and it has a great trigger. Since it dosent really have a saftey to activate to shoot, it shouldnt be a problem for a left hander.

I hope I've explained it well enough for you, if not ,just ask away.

Watchman is right. There is no external safety on the Sig 220.

Overall, the 220 is a great gun. Very accurate and reliable. In fact, it's said to be one of the most accurate .45's "out of the box".

Thanks, I am always open to new ideas, it's just that my Glock has always been my "blankie"
