I went out on a limb the other day and ordered some Hiatt UL-1 Locking Handcuffs. I saw someone with them once and I was told that they are really good for getting a jumpy suspect to comply with you. Anyone else use them? Any feedback on 'em? Thanks in advance!

Some of our officers still have them here from when they were given to motorcyclists so they could be carried on their boots. I use the rigid hiatt speedcuff version as do 99% of other officers which are practically the same when they are locked out.
I am a strong believer in them, the pain you can inflict on someone none compliant is excrutiating, there are takedowns we are tought in relation to taking someone to the floor with just one handcuff on and applying maximum pressure to the wrist joint and pulling someone over. You are very much locked in and can barely move your arms at all, especially handcuffed to the back in the rear stack position I find.
I would not feel particularly comfortable using chain link cuffs myself, have seen people move about too freely in them, thankfully i've never had to.

I favor chain cuffs for the street and hinges for jail.

I've never known anyone to carry folding rigid cuffs. How do you like them?

We're issued the Saflok Mk 5 hinged handcuff and they are manufactured by Australian Defence Industries. I understand the New South Wales Police are also issued the same - I can't comment on other Aussie state and territory Police.
The Saflok Mk 5 is great for take-downs and make arm movement very awkward when the grubs' have been handcuffed using the stacked method. I also have yet to hear of any grub moving their arms from their rear to their front when stacked - I'm not saying that it isn't possible.
Here's a link for those interested in the Saflok Mk 5:

Once you use a pair of Hiatt handcuffs, hinged or chained, you will never want to use any other brand. Period. All others are crap.

I got my hands on a pair when I was working in the jail. The key hole is slightly bigger than say, peerless, and is not too difficult to pick with some practice. All you need is a paperclip with two bends. Other than that they are nice cuffs.
no cuffs are pick-proof but the key hole needs to be shrunk.
