For those of you in the Columbus area, what do you think of Mayor Coleman? I ask this out of curiosity because I don't talk to too many other Columbus residents about this and I'm especially curious if the LEO's in the city support him.
So anyone willing to share? Until I get some responses I'll just say that I did NOT want him to be reelected, unfortunately...
Anyone?

Since I live in the suburbs, he doesn't concern me. I think his train/trolley whatever you want to call it idea is stupid. A train from campus to downtown...big deal. Seems only cosmetic to me, not a real traffic problem solver. Maybe he wants his name to be remembered in Columbus mayoral history, like Mayor Moody of the 70's and his failed 'trash (cash) burning power plant'. I've heard he's not police/fire friendly. Who really cares, he's a politician...phony to the core.

I remember when it was election time last go around, the guy he was running against (why can't I remember his name?) put in one of his ads that Coleman's crime philosophy doesn't work, and as evidence cited that Columbus had higher rape rates than any other large city. Coleman brushed it off as "taking advantage of rape victims" or something to that effect, and people bought it.

Hiring like crazy? I heard they're cutting class sizes due to law enforcement budget cuts.

over the past five years they have been hiring like crazy, they use to only have one academy a year with 30 people in the academy, now they are having 2 academys with 50 per class and were talking about having three. The city is planning on cutting firefighters, city street workers, and other city employees, law enforcement is not supposed to be cut, though there were talks. I guess we will all see :)

Right now Columbus is already down hundreds of officers, here in the next several years, Columbus is going to have a massive number of retirements due to those leaving the DROP program and those taking their regular retirement. I spoke with a Columbus Detective that said they could lose 1/4-1/3 of their force if a lot of officers eligable for retirement do not take DROP.
CPD will be in trouble if Coleman doesnt start hiring like crazy, even more so then they are now

This may not be a popular opinion but I do like Mayor Coleman. And his attitude regarding the Division of Police has certainly improved over the last 5 or so years.... around when his son joined the dept. I believe he is very pro LE. I also believe the city council is the problem. Now those are some seriously phony people who have a knack for only looking at the short term.
