Me and this other guy were tentatively suppose to start the July class for the NYPD/MTA police academy. Going through the whole process. This was suppose to be the biggest class for the MTA goin on until they hired a new Police Chief who was formerly NYPD with a nice starting salary in the MTA with 175,000 decided that they do not need such a big class. Suppose to be 2 groups going in. And me and probably a handfull of other guys fell into the 2nd group. The first group is goin in but we have to wait now til january! But you guys thikn we would run into any problems? Like they might expire us or thigns like that? We've all did the phsyical..interview and completed the background information. I don't think they would beacuse they spent so much time and money on us but what do you guys think?

What are some of the duties for the MTA Police compared to NYPD?

If you were offered a COE I dont think they would expire you just because they invested a lot into you. However since I dont work for MTAPD this is just IMO. The MTA's primary functions are the security of passengers and property at the major rail terminals such as penn station and Grand central. They also have mobile units that patrol all their stations.

It would be nice if my investigator would call me and let me know the deal but I am going to call him on monday and see what he has to say.

Norwich...did you take the 2008 MTA police exam?

none of us got the tentatively letter whatever. We were suppose to get that once the background is done which it is and my BI Investigator told me i should be going into the january class..... I mean we went through this whole process already so i mean it's a good thing right? Not like they are going to drop us off the hiring process complete and restart from scratch?

i mean our backgrounds are basically done.... i shouldn't have anything to worry about right? My BI investigator told me most likely i'll get into the Jnaruay class

Or you can work the system and get into the NYPD class and graduate the academy in December and after MTA hires you quit the NYPD and work for MTA and that way you got the academy out of the way lol. :p

Hey Norwich Cadet...how do you know there is going to be 2 groups...did you actually get a letter stating a Jan 2009 class for the 2004 exam?

I seriously still dont understand what the purpose the MTA PD puts their recruits through NYPD Academy. All you learn basically in the NYPD Academy is NYPD procedures and guidelines. Completely pointless for MTA.

That is probably the only reason they have to go back for 9 weeks at MTA for their re-fresher training or whatever they call it.

TNT,

My opinion, since NYPD is the predominant agency in NYC and all arrests must process through a PD facility regardless of agency, it might not be a bad idea for MTA cops to learn everything from a NYPD standpoint. Point is moot if the MTA cop is assigned to Conn. Second, MTAPD saves money by not having to operate a full time training facility (space, faculty, etc.)

All my opinion of course.

I dont completely disagree with yout, but..

We all learn by doing it anyway. Im sure when you made your first collar, you were scared as a sheep in front of wolves... the guidelines they teach in the academy are not what MTA police really need to know about.

You're absolutely right. My first was a domestic assault with 3 cross complainants. Between aided cards, 61#'s being reserved, DIR's, vouchers for the weapon etc., it was a real learning experience compared to the classroom. I hear you about teaching MTA cops about PD guidelines since they are their own entity with a separate set of rules and regs. It might just be easier for the MTA to do it that way.

you really shouldn't be putting the salary of the Chief of Police up on this board at all.
