I may be moving agencies soon. I currently carry a S&W 5906 9mm (only auto authorized). I was thinking of changing to the hk full size 45. It is big but no larger (actually lighter) than my 9mm. I was wondering what the gun experts here had to say. (And for all you glokies its not authorized.)

My buddy carries the full size USP 45. He loves it. It sure looks bigger than a 5906 though. The only trash I've heard talked about the USP is its size.
Best of luck with the agency move.

I carry the H&K USP .40 and it shoots great, wouldn't trade it for the world.

I carry the HK usp 45 compact and it is an average size pistol. I did not purchase the full size because it was so large. I do not carry the HK USO 45 compact for duty but if I could I would. The only down fall is that the compact only has a 8 round magizine.

IMO, while the HK USP .45 may be a good duty weapon....my PD's TACteam uses them....you WON'T carry it off-duty due to BULK. It's actually quite a bit larger than your 5906. It's even larger than a Beretta M9/92FS, which is the largest duty-sized weapon MOST officers can carry concealed.
IMO, if you want an HK .45, go with the HK USP Compact .45. It is approximately the same size as your 5906. With 9 rounds of .45 in the pistol, and 1-2 reloads, you should be adequately armed.

Ditto,
If I had to go HK .45 I'd go the compact. The fullsize is huge and dosen't shoot well IMO. I only like two .45's: a quality 1911 or a S&W Performance Center .45 and since the S&W ones aren't made currently 1911 it is.
Personally I'd rather carry 16rds of 9mm than 9rds of .45. Too bad the Para LDA.45 isn't quality enough to bet ones life on. 14+1 .45 is enough for anyone :D
