There are a few fragmented threads, but they mostly relate to the physical agility test and jurisdiction issues...etc, so I figured I'd start a new one for those of us who are now moving on in the process for the November 17th test list.

Today I received a notice to attend a "personal history review" on June 11th. Anyone else get this?

Good luck to you.

I also have been directed to attend this. Does anyone know if this is an actual interview or "board"? It just has a one page personal history form to fill out and a list of documents to bring (transcripts, etc). Either way, should I assume business attire is the order of the day?

Good luck to everyone.

I received the same thing for 6/11. I am going to have to call and see about rescheduling. Working 400 miles away is a real pain. I hope that doesnt put me too far back in the process.

Was able to reschedule with no problems. The person I spoke with said that I am still scheduled with the first group of interviews so there should not be any unecessary delays.

I would think business attire also, no?

Good luck everyone.

The personal history statements are nothing more than residency checks for the civil service list. You simply meet with a woman from civil service who makes sure that you live in Erie County. Do not worry about attire, nobody from any law enforcement agency will be there!!!

Yeah, if I remember correctly, the whole "interview" took less than 5 minutes.

Are you sure business attire is not needed? I don't want to be the only retard that shows up with or without...lol...

I went to the personal history review yesterday (Wednesday June 11th) so I'll tell you guys what to expect.

The whole process took five minutes. You'll be led to a room where a civilian employee from Erie County Personnel will check to make sure you meet the residency, educational, and age requirements...and that's it. So just make sure you have your personal history statement and documents that they told you to bring and you'll be fine.

Dress- I wore a suit. The guy next in line behind me wore shirt and tie. You could easily get away with business casual but to be safe I'd recommend a tie.

I hope this helps. If you have any more questions let me know.

Good luck!

It is a safe bet to assume to wear business attire for everything after the written test unless expressly told otherwise (aka the PAT test).

I would not worry about being the guy that is overdressed, I would worry about being the guy that is under dressed.

Quick question. I have heard people saying that local PD's also hire from the counties list. Do you have to send a letter to the PD's you are interested in, expressing your interest, or will they contact you if they need to fill positions?

They will canvass you if they are hiring.

It depends on residency. If you are on the Erie County list and live in Tonawanda (for example), then you will get a canvass letter from Tonawanda. You get preference with the town you live in. Towns almost never hire outside of their residency due to the number of town residents that apply. So if there is a specific local town PD that you want to work for I would strongly suggest you move into that town ASAP.

i know im ressurecting an old thread here but i just got a call and was offered a position as deputy sheriff and told to report on the 22nd, anyone else?

Report for what? Have you been in the process with an agency? I know the current Erie County Academy finishes up on Dec. 22nd, so they'll probably have another one starting in February sometime I would think.

Details, people, details! Were you offered a position on the road patrol or in the jail? Where were you in the hiring process before they offered you a position? Why/where are you reporting on the 22nd???

Very strong bump but I have been having a hell of a time searching online for any upcoming test dates for the Sheriff's exam. Most websites I've come across haven't been updated in awhile. And to top it off the contact emails I've been able to track down to request info have all been deactivated.

If anybody here has any info on upcoming tests or at the very least an email address they have from their contact sheets I can use to scheduling a test I'd really appreciate a PM or something. Thanks in advance!

The test is usually held every three years and the most recent test was given in November 2008.

MaxPower, you don't write anymore, you don't call...no seriously PLEASE hit me up via PM.

The last test was 11/07 actually. :)

Unless they had another and kept the 11/07 test takers on the list as well....

Wow only once every 3 years? I thought they did at least 1 a year...

Is it the same with Erie County Corrections?

The Erie County Deputy Sheriff/Correction exam was just given last month.
