Is it me or do you get a kick out of going to court and watching what the public just wore the day before? I crack up when I see "Apple Bottom jeans" shirt in glitter. A long white (well yellowish) shirt untucked and baggy jeans. A hat on sideways. I had an Officer tell me he saw a guy in court for a possession charge and he was wearing a shirt that said "rehab is for quitters". How awesome would that be to see? The best I have seen this week said "If you think im a bit## then you should see my momma". I just can not understand what the heck people are thinking when they come to court on charges and think this is acceptable. Sometimes I just want to see the judge go off and say "you have 10 minutes to get back here wearing something nice". Oh yeah and dont forget when the inmates are brought out in shackles and the "baby momma" is in the court room waving and blowing a kiss. So, this is my fun way of seeing what YOU have seen in the courtroom that people wear??

I can count on one hand the amount of defendants who have shown up in appropriate court attire this past year.

Why would they dress up for something that is a joke to them? No respect for the law why a mutual respect for the courts?

I had a guy come in a few weeks ago that I had to fight and he was wearing a long white tshirt that said F%ck the Police written on it in sharpie. He had it layered under another shirt. The judge loved that one.

He is in DOC now haha

Theres no such thing as appropriate attire in Philly courts. Hell one time I was testifying and the judge picked up her cell phone and started talking about dinner. Its a joke here.

I got reassigned from court security a few years ago. Flannel lounge pants and fuzzy slippers seem to be acceptable attire when you are twenty five or under.

We still have one Judge that won't see anyone in flip-flops, shorts or tank-tops.

we actually have one judge that makes them tuck their shirts in and if they dont, they get escorted out until the problem is fixed. then they go to the end of the list. i actually saw a guy show up the other week wearing a nice suit and tie. had big diamond earrings and the suit looked expensive too. then he applied and was approved for a court appointed (free) attorney.

Had a guy show up to court in a shirt that said "If it has t*ts or tires it's going to need a lot of work". His judge was a woman. Guess he thought he was already going to prison, so why not? Idiot....

was in court yesterday and a guy who was appearing on a fail to appear charge was wearing a shirt with a guy smoking a joint. The judge asked him what was his original charge. He replied, "possession of marijuana."

When I was in Prisoner Transport years ago I had a big old gal wearing a black T shirt that had big white letters "DON'T ASK ME FOR $HIT!" When I pointed out to her and the jailers that she was about to make her appearance before the toughest judge in the judicial district, she was encouraged to turn her shirt inside out prior to seeing the judge.

Had a guy show up for court on a CDV charge with a tank top (wife beater). Judge told him not to open his mouth and said "I find you guilty because you are not going to appear in front of me in that shirt. You are tried in your absence and I found you guilty."

Let's see.

Thong exposed while standing up for the she's, boxers for the he's.
Maximum PSI exceeded for textiles jeans are constructed of.
"Big Jugs Pit Crew" T-shirt with pictures of augmented females suggestively posed with air tools
Not a clothing issue, but showing up drunk for your DUI trial

Monday morning I saw 2 women going into court wearing identical tee shirts that said;

Blah
Blah
Blah
Blah
Blah.

Fortunately I got to leave without seeing their case heard.

My previous favorite was the Michael Vick jersey.

It's generic, but I'm still fond of the big green marijuna leaf T-shirt.

Let's see, I get to yell at somebody a few times a day for thinking that a hat is OK to wear to court.

My favorite is white guys who wear FUBU clothes, though.

I had a five foot four inch female witness, weighing about 250 pound, show up wearing a tight red nylon tank top with "Hot Shi*" written in gold letters across the front. I told her to go home and dress nicer. She asked how much nicer, and I said, "Like you were going to meet God." :D

Because of our remote location we do court telephonic. I have been known to show up myself in sweats or jeans.

Most of our Judges here, with the exception of one and he is from as he say-the old school, will let the defendant wear whatever they want just as long as they show up. This old Judge had a case the other day where the woman stood up and he told her that he was not going to hear her case until she changed into something more presentable. As she turned to walk out of the court room to go change he yelled, "and dont come back in here with thongs on". That got everyones attention, you could hear everyone shuffling, trying to get a look at her. She had on shorts, tshirt, and flip-flops. I did not see a thong. Later in the day after she had returned and was found guilty and court was over I asked the judge, how did you know she had a thong on? He said you could see THEM. I asked "THEM?" He said yes, she needed something to cover up those dirty toenails. Still confused I asked him what he was talking about. He was calling the flip flops-thongs. He actually thought flip flops and thongs were the same thing. We we told him what a thong really was he turned red and said "how long have they been calling underwear thongs?" We all wanted tolaugh but we knew if we did we would never win another case in his court!

I was always fond of the NFL stadium jacket two sizes too big over baggy sweats with layers of bling and a gold lame (sp?) baseball cap on sideways.

That guy got a million dollar cash only bond.

There are signs posted outside the courtroom warning about dress attire for the defendants. The bailiff’s are sharp and will turn around folks not dressed appropriate prior to the judge being seated...

Well in the Judges defense......in the "old" days before there were thongs, the underwear, flip flops were called thongs because they went between the toes much like the thongs of today go......well you know.;)
Yes just like there were days when there were no cell phones or computers there were no thong underwear. :D

I had a guy show up to a possession for sales case wearing a black t-shirt with little ak-47's printed all over it and "STRAIGHT THUG" across the lower back. Idiot. His lawyer then questioned me on why i believed his innocent client was a gang member....

On the flip side... some officers are pretty out there when they show up to court. Narco/ Vice officers all show up with a mechanics shirt, sleeved out arms exposed, dirty jeans with a wallet chain hanging out and dirty boots.

Even when I was working a plain clothes/ UC assignment I would wear a suit to court. Even a mohawk and long braided beard look better if you are in a suit IMO

did anyone say "khaki suit"??LOLOOLOOLOL.One of my clients-booked for 11359 H.S. and had priors, was being read his sentence- (yup, continued probation, plus time served ) and here this bonehead was- chuck taylors with red laces, tan oversized dickeys' long sleeve shirt, pressed and military/cholo style creased, baggy khaki pants, shirt buttoned up to the neck and thick gold chain with $ sign pendant, corn rows with red rubberbanded ends, everytime the judge would ask if he understood ,knuckle head would answer in a growl ,"fo'sho" or "fo shee-zee".the judge would stop and STARE at him, then the sheriffs deputies (who were mad dogging him also)-after the 5th "fo' shee-zee",the judge snapped -"Sir,do you speak english or need an interpreter?! If you use some 'hood repsonse other than "Yes",Ma'am one more time, you're going back into custody( the bailiff deputies wanted to jump all over this fool)- it apparently got homies' attention as he responded weakly "yes ma'am ,i understand- I'm sorry"..........

The best I ever saw was the idiot standing before the judge with about 20 cops in the courtroom and he has a gun in his back pocket clearly visible to all of us. Two Pomona PD officers approached him and retrieved the loaded 2 inch 38 and cuffed him.. The judge was not a happy camper.

A guy showed up dressed in a lime green suit with matching cowboy boots (pants tucked in!). His case was continued and a Spanish translator ordered for the next setting.

I used to have a judge that was previously a nun. She sent girls home all the time for provocative dress. Told them to be back for the next setting, and she might get to their case sometime that day.

The first time I was there this 18 year old pregnant girl was barely dressed. When the Deputy told her to dress nicer next time and to take the sunglasses off her head she shot him a dirty look and said "Don't be mad at me cuz I gots style". I happened to see her there on my next appearance and she was dressed a little more conservative.

Years ago I had an accident ticket in Norfolk, VA. Big Navy town. I was still on active duty, but off that day, so I show up for court in civvies. Judge's name is Lawless (knows every stop sign in the city). My turn came up, I walk up all nicely dressed, sailor haircut. Judge calls my name, looks at me, asks if I am in the Navy. "Yes sir." "Where's your uniform, sailor." "At home, sir." He leans back in his chair, points at the bailiff, and says he has his uniform on. See all those sailors in the courtroom? They have their uniform. See those two crusty shore patrol chiefs? They have their uniform. I have my uniform.

He tells the clerk to continue my case to the troopers next court date, and tells me to come back in uniform.

I did.....

I was attending court in an adjoining county, and the woman was testifying to her contiued violation of the court orders. Her shirt read in big white letters, " You can't fix stupid." I still agree with that shirt.

Defendants NEVER come to court dressed appropriately I have seen plaenty of Bob Marley Smoking a joint tshirts, "Cash Money Millionaires" t shirts baggy jeans do rags, dirty work clothes or any thing else you would see dopes wearing on the street. But why should they dress up, they will only get stet for drug diversion, or PBJ, or Nolle Prosed anyway. Yet we have to wear our hot uncomfortable class B uniforms to court rather than our comfortable, more tacticaly sound utility uniforms.

That's awesome!! DOACop38's story is halarious! Good stuff. While at KC I saw a lot of the "thugwear" in the courthouse. I'm at a smaller "good ol boy" town now and they don't allow hats and have some other restrictions. It's a little more conservative. Our reserve guys work court and don't take any crap from anyone so it's better.....

Didn't say he was convicted, heck didn't even say he was charged, just arrested for it. And if a conservative judge was having a bad day, I can see it.
