The New Club Drug: Preparation H? (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,362304,00.html)
The hottest club drug appears to be one normally used to fix a "burning" problem.
Preparation H, the topical medication used to treat hemorrhoids, reportedly is catching fire as the latest "drug" to hit the New York City club scene, according to a report on ABCNews.com.
New York bouncer, blogger and author Rob Fitzgerald said men are slathering up their torsos with the hemorrhoid cream to make themselves look "ripped," the Web site reported.
The method has been used by body builders to fix problem areas before competitions and has been touted on the Internet for its ability to sculpt muscles of the chest and torso and even reduce puffiness around the eyes, according to the report.
The topical solution contains a medication called phenylephrine HCL, which shrinks the swollen tissues of hemorrhoids. It works by constricting the nearby blood vessels that surround the area. But the ingredient will shrink other tissue as well, hence its off-label use.
A spokeswoman with Wyeth Consumer Healthcare, the maker of Preparation H, told ABCNews.com that the company does not approve or endorse off-label uses for the drug.
And doctors say the drug can cause uncomfortable side effects such as rashes, as well as more serious side effects such as elevated blood pressure.
Who knew? Guess it gives the six minute abs a run for its money.

I guess when you see the ripped guys with a lot of cologne on, the cologne is for covering up the smell of the H.

lol this is an old beauty pageant/model trick, they would lather their thighs/legs in H and use plastic saran wrap to cover, minimizes cottage cheese effect and makes the legs look toned up...

Based on what they say about it constricting blood vessels and causes tissue to shrink....I'd bet money that would cause some shrinkage.

Given a lot of the typical guys that are in the clubs, Preparation H certainly is appropriate for their whole bodies.

Trendy drug laced with new dangers
By DANIEL SHOER ROTH
The round pills with embossed symbols seized in April in Fort Lauderdale were going to be sold as Ecstasy but actually were made of methamphetamine.
City cops declined to release details about the case, which the press mostly missed, because it is part of a broader probe into the drug trade. But Sgt. Frank Sousa said arrests were made.
ADULTERATED DOSE
The case highlights a new trend in South Florida drug-trafficking: the growing use of Ecstasy adulterated with methamphetamine in a single dose.
''It is one of the major concerns for those of us who investigate the problem of methamphetamine in South Florida,'' said Jim Hall, of the Up Front Drug Information Center in Miami.
Although both drugs can cause severe damage, methamphetamine -- which is more addictive and dangerous than Ecstasy -- is reaching a broader sector of the population than people realize, including thousands of young people in the electronic music and hip-hop scene who are not aware they are consuming it.
The ''covert'' arrival of meth comes at a time when peddling Ecstasy has notably increased after five years of enhanced security led to noticeable decreases. Statistics from the Broward Sheriff's Office indicate that Ecstasy cases increased by 373 percent between 2005 and 2007.
In Miami-Dade County, the increase was 175 percent, according to police.
Max, 50, of Miami, has been sober for eight years. He used Ecstasy during the height of the disco era in South Beach in the 1980s. In the 1990s, he became addicted to meth.
''You think you're going to take an Ecstasy to go dancing in a social environment, and that you're going to feel divine for one night, but you don't realize that you'll turn into a total addict, because the crystal produces a very strong craving,'' said Max, referring to the adulterated pills. He asked to remain anonymous because it's a principle of the program of recovery.
Recent federal research suggests that the combination of both substances produces greater adverse neurochemical and behavioral effects. Popularly known as crystal meth or ice, methamphetamine has been associated with violent crimes. Fifty percent of deaths where the two drugs were found were homicides, said the Miami-Dade medical examiner's office.
DRUG'S `FACE-LIFT'
Early this year, the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy issued an alert about this metamphetamine-laced Ecstasy, describing it as a dangerous ''face-lift'' to a designer drug. Because meth is cheaper than Ecstasy, producers seek to boost profits and likely to increase ''the addictive potential of their product,'' the agency said.
California launched a $11.5 million campaign to combat methamphetamine. But in Florida, cutbacks reduced Fort Lauderdale police's funding for its antidrug campaign. Neither Miami-Dade nor Broward has a specialized center to assist meth addicts, and what resources the counties do have are scattered -- mental health in one agency, substance abuse in another, HIV treatment elsewhere -- which discourages the patient, said David Fawcett, director of the South Florida Meth Task Force.
The outlook is even gloomier when you look at the image used in public awareness campaigns by outreach agencies to deliver their message -- a skull and crossbones.

I heard a bit on the radio, I THINK it was Paul Harvey about actors and actress's using the stuff to erase small wrinkles like crows feet on their faces. Anyway the co. that makes changed the stuff so it did not have the magic ingredient any more. The stuff sold abroad is still pre-ban.
