I'm actually looking to go into the July class and have completed 90% of the process so far, but hit a wall with the residency issue. Im from nj, but have an uncle that lives in brooklyn that agreed i could use his address and live there. However, the problem is that im not sure if i can move in there before the academy starts. Yes i can put down that address, but if they send invest. over there to talk to the neighbors, no one is going to know me. I really dont have a time frame to when im able to move in there, so even if i do get into the academy i dont want to be followed everyday just making sure i go to that address.
Just wondering what else i can do here. Thanks.

I am sure more people will answer this and probably give ya a better answer than me. i went through the process around 4 years ago. your BI wants an address in NY. if you are going to live with your uncle till the academy then move out to your own apartment, then its ok. once you move to your new address, then you have to inform them and change your address. your BI will understand that you are moving fresh with your uncle and that no one knows ya there. I remember when my BI got me a list of people who live around my new address and i told her that I DONT KNOW ANY ONE... it wasnt a problem at all. if you are going to stay with your uncle in brooklyn till the academy then you shouldnt worry about it.
good luck, brother.

Thanks man. I also heard that some BI's dont really go out of their way to talk to neighbors or any of that if they feel theres not going to be a problem. Then i have also heard from one of my other NYPD buddies that some BI's just check to see if you have clothes and other things where your living and dont even bother talking to any of the neighbors.

My BI came all the way out to Suffolk county to talk to my neighbors,
I was kinda of surprised.

your BI might go to NJ to talk to your neighbors there since they would know ya better. dont stress it, bro. just move in with your uncle in brooklyn for now till you get the call for the academy. once you are in the academy, make sure you are REALLY REALLY REALLY living in NY. people with long time OTJ get jammed for this.

Quick question i forgot to ask. How strict are they with this? Is it a one time deal where they make sure im there, and then thats it?
I mean would they go out of their way to see that i go home to brooklyn everyday?

If your talking about during the Academy then yeah they are mad strict. They are going to be strict from day one till you retire. you never know who is following ya. they dont have the manpower to go after everyone, but are ya going to gamble over your career? remember that many people hate cops and many of them would love to call and jam ya up. if you really wanna be a cop then do it the right way from day one and make sure you live here. once again, YES THEY ARE VERY STRICT.

Your BI will work with you if you are honest. I told mine I wasn't moving until I got the official notice I was getting hired. He told me to get a notarized letter from the relative I would be living with saying if hired by the NYPD i would be living there. I submitted that and was fine to get hired.
They called me Friday night to show up monday for Queens College. I called my BI and told him I was moving in Saturday night. Sunday morning a Sgt showed up at my new place, checked I was there and went to the neighbor. She asked if they saw me moving stuff into the house (cause she couldnt really ask if he knew me after 12 hours of being there).
