NYPD academy question.

Here is my situation. I am currently am 20 years old and will be 21 in december. I took the test for the NYPD back in Oct. and they called me back. Since i was not 21, they put me on the wait list and told me to contact them when I turn 21.

I know that they run the academy 2 times in a year. When is the most current one...july? I ask that because as soon as they finish hiring for this academy, I want to give my name back on the list since i will be ready for the January 2009 hiring. Does any one know if they finished hiring for the july one or are they still in the process?

Still in the process, they don't finish the hiring process until a few weeks after the academy starts. Basically after they are done with backfill from what I know.

Start inquiring around August. They will probably tell you when processing will resume and then take it from there.

Your best course of action would be to call roughly six months before the academy class you plan on attending. The NYPD can process very quickly, but you should give yourself enough time to gather the required documents. It also gives you time to prepare for each step of the process.

Yeah, the paperwork and all of the supporting documents can take you some time to nail down. This way you give yourself plenty of time to gather everything. It's very detailed.
