anyone know any officers who are on duty with the nypd (preferably as rookies) and take a few courses part time to continue earning credits towards a higher degree? how do you work between an nypd schedule and a part time school schedule? do superiors in the nypd try to work with rookies who attend classes?
also, when most students register for classes, they typically do it a couple months in advance from when the semester actually begins. how consistent is your work schedule with the nypd? because in order to formulate a part time school schedule a couple of months in advance, you need to know what hours you are working, correct?
bascially i would just like to know if anyone is or knows someone who is an officer (again, preferably rookie) and manages a part time school schedule, full time nypd schedule, and how they accomplish this. thanks for reading my post.

it will be hard to go to school while on your first couple of years on the job, especially if you're in a busy pct. Remember as a officer your work availability is 24hours/365day a year

I was able to attend classes while I was still in the NYPD. The admin Lt. allowed me to either take the day off using my time or do a tour change so I could attend class. I was only taking 1 class per week though. It's possible, just depends on the Cmd. and your bosses.

when you say "you could do it", about how many classes are you talking about in a typical semester?
and also, how do you get a steady tour.

I can't imagine a boss trying to hinder your ability to go back to school. Just don't be a scammer, pull your own weight, pick up your jobs, and you'll be fine. Guys fresh out of the academy through retirement go back to school. It's all up to what you can handle. My recommendation, go back once you get in a squad with steady tours.
You'll get a squad after Impact or FTU (most likely). If you're on patrol you'll be in a squad with a steady tour with rotating days off. If you get a detail, you'll likely have steady days off. Either option enables a motivated individual to complete a degree on a part time basis.
Every command IS a different entity in most ways that count so your mileage may vary.
Good luck.
