are you typically with or near a fellow officer while on foot patrol as a rookie? or do you walk around in what seems like isolation (obviously people are close enough for backup)?
also, while im on the subject of being a rookie, what type of training does the nypd implement after graduating the academy? is there an FTO/PTO program? most people are pretty quick to criticize the methods of the nypd, and i have heard that after graduation they just throw you out on the streets to learn for yourself. any truth to this?
AND overall what is the typical day of a rookie in an impact area like? thanks for responses.

It all depends on where you are and who your Sgt is.
You could be on your post and you'll have another officer across the street on his or her post, now depending on your Sgt you could team up and patrol both post as a group, therefore that person would be your partner for the day. But at the same time you could be on a single man post in which you're the only one on that block or so.
The NYPD doesn't have a FTO program as far as I know, Your first day on the street will be orientation and so on, or they might just put you on the streets on your first day. if you're lucky you might become friends with one of the guys that have time on and they might teach you a thing or two, but mainly you will learn the streets by yourself with a little help here and there. but like I said, it all depends on which command you get put on.

Here we go again...
I HEARD this and I THOUGHT that.
Guys, if your not hired by the NYPD yet, dont reply.
Of course NYPD has a "FTO" program, those are the pcts that are NOT impact. You basically do foot posts, learn with a "training sgt" and then eventually get a sector in that pct.

But even then, That's not a real FTO program like other dept have like MTAPD,NCPD,NYSP,SCPD,NYSPP,SCSO and so on where you're assigned to a officer with time on and they watch over you during your shift and so on.

Why does it matter if someone is not yet employed? If a person knows the answer with no years on the job it is just as good as someone with the same answer with 20 years on the job.

I asked my friend that works in Brooklyn North, he's been on the job for 3years.
I didn't have FTO at the beginning but more like towards the end, like two or three months before my probationary period ended. We only had one FTO assigned to like 30 of us so in other words you basically learn everything by yourself and if you have questions you just ask one of the other officers
So the FTO thing basically depends on where you go because everyone exp within the PD is completely different.
