I am a candidate for Port Authority, they just send out a letter to my references and jobs. I was just wondering what the academy is like as far as how much running/working out is there vs in class training? Do you run and take classes everyday or does it switch off between days?

I was also wondering if anyone knew where in Jersey the academy takes place? If I get the opportunity to attend the academy I wanted to see if it is worth driving back and forth everyday with gas being how it is, or just getting an apartment in Jersey? I'm from LI.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

1. Are you sure they sent out a letter for your references and jobs or you have to get them yourself?

2. The Academy is 5 days a week

3. The Academy takes place in Jersey on Erie street I believe, the same place you went for phase 1 of the back ground investigative process.

4. Yes the drive is worth it, the pay and benefits in the long run are.

hope that helps

Yes. They sent out a reference form to all of my previous employers and references.. I thought the academy was at a University for some reason. That location is pretty good since it's right outside of the city. Do you get benefits while you are in the academy or does that start after you graduate?

Is there anyone else that knows more about the academy and how much running and working out is involved as compared to classroom training?

My best friend just graduated from the PAPD back in January. Basically yes, you have PT everyday, including classes. My friend said PT was rough, but as long as you didnt punk out, you should be fine.

The PAPD has their own Academy in Jersey City.

Even if you cant get an Apt in Jersey, the drive is DEFF worth it. Some of the stuff my friend tells me in the way of benifits and pay is just ridiclious (in a very good way) Trust me, you get this job, you and your family will be set.

Any other questions let me know, ill talk to my friend for you

Thanks man. I really hope I make it through the next few parts of the process. I am in the process of trying to get in some better shape right, hopefully I can get to the point where I will feel comfortable going into the academy soon.

Yea I figure if worse comes to worse I will drive but it seems so much easier to get a 6 month lease and be close by especially with gas prices and tolls prices. Where did your buddy get stationed?
