I am a civilian with a PhD in biochemistry and I have applied for a criminalist position with the NYPD crime lab that I am very excited about.
I have had difficulty finding out just how the NYPD organizes its crime lab, and I was hoping someone here might be able to explain it to me.
Are criminalists found in multiple "departments" like DNA, drug chemistry, etc. or do they perform a broad range of tasks?
What is the hiring process like, and is there anything I can do to help myself get this job?
Any information or comments anyone has on this part of the NYPD would be helpful. Thank you!
