Just wondering if anyone knows of any good documentries or movies on the NYPD ESU? I have NYPD 24/7 on dvd and found it quite interesting, was just wondering if there was any other docos floating around?

Try getting Samuel Katz' book on ESU, he also did one on LA SWAT great books

Also COPS rode with them a few times back in the 1990's, and did a thing on a Jumper with the airbags, and some other stories. might find some old tapes on that on line somewhere.

I recall ABC doing a short lived show where they followed an ESU lieutenant around. Was that NYPD 24/7?

Their was also another "Cops" segment where NYPD ESU responded to a car accident where some guy drove into a highway underpass. I think that and the apartment raid are the only segments I have ever seen that featured an NYC area agency aside from the Jersey City Police and the Passaic County Sheriff's Dept. both in NJ. I also recall another NJ sheriff's department being featured as well; something in a park. It was one of the counties closer to NYC (Union, Hudson, Essex, etc.

Recently on a new show, Street Patrol, they showed NYPD ESU respond to a car in the river. It was from the early 90's.

Correct. It was NYPD 24/7. I loved that show.

NYPD 24/7 is the best, I have the dvd. I love it. It gives you a great insight on NYPD

An Irish film crew did an excellent 4-part series on The NYPD Narcotics Unit, Vice Division, Homicide Unit & Emergency Services Unit called "NYPD at Close Range". I found the series available online for purchase but it is very expensive, maybe you can find an episode on youtube or a similar site. Also, "E-Man Life in the NYPD Emergency Services" by Al Sheppard is a good, quick read.
