Hey, any law enforcement out there have any experiences dealing with reporters at crime scenes or set perimeters? Just curious as to what point you would wait before you lock one up for discon, ect... are you more patient with them. Had a situation, which is why Im asking. If so, and you will share, could you please state your agency. Thanks. Just wanna see if your experience match mine. Alot of them seem like real d**ks.

According to your profile you are a SSA for NYPD. Wouldn't you just refer the media to DCPI?

Just remember the old saying about picking a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel and paper by the ton. :D

Your right we do refer to dcpi, but this particular reporter decided to disregard an order and try to cross the lines. When ordered back, he became disorderly and even made physical threats. Had it been anybody else he wouldve been a collar. BUT since he was a reporter, we decided to back off as long as he followed the directive.

Off the top of my head, I would say OGA and Harassment. Every situation is unique and fluid.

He had credentials but not an NYPD press pass. It wouldn't have been a problem if he had just shut his mouth and followed the order, but instead he got irate and should have been a collar. Politics saved this guy. The other reporters gave no problems. I guess he didnt feel we had any authority to give him an order. AMAZING the people you meet on this job.

If he backed away, you did your job. I wouldn't sweat it.

We have reporters around the Courthouses all the time....the regulars, beat reporters, station regulars, know the rules. It's when you have a high profile case and out of towners show up, or the Financial Times sends someone that we have a problem.
