for NYS Parole Officer positions...
It was stated that a 4 year degree is required. Then i check the website and it has specific info (maybe more recent?) about the degree needs to be in a certain field?
Can you guys clarify this for me...whats the requirements for this position?
I already took the Civil Service Exam, but I dont want to be banking on it if I really cant count my 4 year as fulfilling the degree requirement for the job.
Ive got a 4 year B.A. in International Studies with a minor in Political Science. I tested out in two languages (Spanish and German) in college, and I am currently employed to the DHS for the TSA as a Screener/Security Officer. Baffles the heck out of me if I am not employable even as a trainee to the Parole Division....
thanks in advance guys.

It just says a bachelor's degree is all you need.

"Parole Officer Trainee: Bachelor's Degree or higher degree in sociology, psychology, social work, counseling, criminal justice, rehabilitation counseling, American studies with concentration in Native American studies, or in Black, Asian Pacific Islander, Hispanic cultural studies, or Latin American/Caribbean studies; or a law degree."
I hope your right, cause I just may go nuts if I had to get a degree in something bogus like "Caribbean studies" or "Native American Studies" to qualify...
Agh, well...results from the Civil Service Exam come in this week...they told me the 8th of May. I will be here crossing my fingers and waiting until then :D

You would have a good argument since the civil service posting said a bachelor's without specifying the type.... Results are coming in this week? it usually has been 3 months from the test date... Good luck... that was a tough test!

its been three months since I took the exam..and yes it was pretty tricky...many of the questions had more than one answer that I think would be acceptable. Hard to tell what they were looking for.
and hopefully I wont have to play the convincing game to be eligible for this position. Plus my degree should have the diversity in it to fill the requirements.

They have their academy so they'll teach everything you need anyways... Definately looking forward to the scores.... Did you sign up for any of the investigator tests coming up?

go to the civil service site.... they are open for sign up until the 12th... there is DMV, narcotics, insurance, etc. some of them may only offer tests every 4 years.

well, ill poke around, and maybe apply to the DMV Motor Vehicle Investigator position....as I am not qualified for the Narcotic position (need to have 4 year degree background in some of the sciences)

About the politics, cultures, histories and interactions between the nations of the world.
Also one influences another, the reasons behind various conflicts/wars/political clashes, etc...
Basically you learn about how the world works, specific nations, why/how that is, and helps to explain events in the news along (causes/reasons).

Does anyone know when the NY state hiring freeze for state employees will be over? I took the Parole Officer Trainee exam on March 8, 2008 and the economic crisis messed up my chances of getting a P.O. job. :(
Also, does anyone know the top salary for a New York State Parole Officer?
