around 7500 in Suffolk
Are you kidding me? SCPD has slightly more cops then the NCPD, and the NCPD has 2500.

Some rumors floating around the water cooler:
A possible county/village class after the new year
******This is where I usually add my "Rumor Disclaimer" but since you all probably know it, I won't******
Haha definately no disclaimer needed. Thanks for any and all updates Shanty. One thing I know for sure. EVENTUALLY, they HAVE to hire, who knows when, but there will be a lucky few who are in the right place at the right time, and subsequently come out on top. Let's just hope it's sooner rather than later.

Cops on the island never retire many are actually forced out after 30yrs!! NYPD cops are out the door on there 20th year. Its all a numbers game.
I've heard the same as well. I know that I overheard two NCPD officers talking about how they so close to their 32nd year and thats when they said they were going to retire, and only because they said that souzzi is still trying to mess with the contract and budget and whatnot But again thats only what I overheard.

Lets face the facts everyone here dreams about getting on Nassau os Suffolk. The bottom line is they DONT HIRE MANY!! Nassau is lucky to hire 50 off that list, and the same for suffolk!! Numbers dont lie 2,900 cops in Nassau mabye around 7500 in Suffolk, NYPD 35,000!! Cops on the island never retire many are actually forced out after 30yrs!! NYPD cops are out the door on there 20th year. Its all a numbers game.
it was just in the paper the other day nassau was around like 2500 and suffolk was a little more something like 2700. no 7500 i wish

I stand corrected this my point amd most guys that get on in Nassau or Suffolk are coming from the NYPD or other departments.

Things to keep in mind.....
If Mangano wins CE, which at right this very minute he is, there will be some movement up top. Maybe not right away, but within a year, all the Suozzi hacks will be submitting papers...or more appropriately they'll be told to submit papers. One of the biggest will be the PC. Movement at top usually results in vacancies down at the bottom. That, cuppled with the continuing retirement wave, that has slowed but not stopped, will neccesitate some hiring. Plus they have very recently made detectives, just established a new Sgt's list....etc etc....
I feel hiring will take place soon after the new year. Just my personal .02.
I will continue to relay info/rumors as I can.

I heard from a fellow officer they are waiting for the election to be determined. This person said they are trying to push out people with over 20 yrs so they can actually hire more officers and save money. These guys JUST DONT RETIRE!! If 200 retire they can hire 400 and actually save money. Go fiqure.

I wished I would of passed the nassau test. I got a 81 on the 2003 exam and failed the 2007 exam. I suck at exams.

Because the Nassau exam doesn't go by cognitive thinking. it goes by anything other then that and intellect level, because the Justice Department blew a lid. Basically, if you would have scored high on NYPD or Suffolk, it seems like you'd score on the low end of NCPD's.
The scoring process simply stripped the test of 16 of its 25 parts, the ones that (coincidentally) measured the ability to reason, think inferentially, and exercise judgement.
Why was this done? The validation report itself, on page 86, states baldly that cognitive testing was rejected "in the interest of minimizing adverse impact." In other words, "Blacks do not do as well as whites on such tests, so we'll simply ignore the results."

You may have the same attitude as these "old-timers" when you approach retirement age. Why should a veteran officer quit just to make room for a snot-nosed rowdy kid?
Now what is the point of this post? I was referring to the facts not trying to offend anybody.

So what was the secret to getting a good grade on this test?
So what was the secret to getting a good grade on this test?
While the county has refused to divulge the test questions or the answer key, a flavor can be gleaned from these two questions, which were reproduced in the validation report: When you were in high school, were you a member of a sports team? A. Yes. B. No. Which of the two statements is most like you--A or B? A: I'm always in a hurry at work to get things done. B: At work, I think of myself as part of a smooth-running machine.
Take of that what you will.

I did well by just answering all questions honestly and as accurately as possible. There are a lot of personality based questions on the test, best bet is to just use your judgment and answer all the questions consistently. As for the rest of the test, just have to go slow and read slowly.

Typically, between one-third and one-half of the recruits in every Nassau police academy class are former city officers.

They hire a lot of NYPD because a lot of them take the test. I have cousins that are on nassau that worked for FedEx and coca cola. If you don't have anything bad in your history you will be fine. There academy teaches you everything you need to know. On a side note I wonder with the election over now and SCPD hiring, if Nassau will follow suit and put a class in. I'm sure a lot of people took both tests and nassau could lose a bunch of those guys that have been processed.

Excellent point Tony, I was actually thinking the same thing in regards to perhaps Nassau putting in a class being that Suffolk is, and that Nassau will likely lose many of their high scorers (who have already been processed) to Suffolk.
On that note, if you guys had a choice of depts in which to chose to work for, which would you prefer. Nassau PD or Suffolk PD?

Nassau has a better work schedule and there PBA has had pretty good relations w there executives. Salary wise suffolk def puts you in the academy w a sweet starting salary. To be honest I've processed w/ nassau and did get picked in the lotto for suffolk so I would take the first one that hires. I'm just happy to be in the process as I know these jobs are not easy to come by.

Well I made a few calls, and like I've always said, NC is a very unique department. Never believe anything until it's in writing, then still 2nd guess it.
As far as the word on the class for January, it's going to happen. Definately for villages, possibly for county guys. That's why the order was worded so ambiguously. No word or rumors about who many either.
The official word is they're waiting until the new CE gets sworn it and get his feelings/blessings on it before commiting to county applicants....
So, county guys, gotta keep on truckin' and wait for the new year......:(
That's all I've got for now.
