amherst Mass? If we are talking about the same place it's about 41K. IT's a very rich area that's why...very quiet too. IT was funny they came to our school to recruit us saying that there are about 20-25 slots available and they want military ppl etc etc. So everyone applied took the free test..but at the test site the captain walks into the room and says good luck we are looking for the best candidate to fill the 2 slots we have available...yeah i passed that test but definltey not getting called

Considering this is a NY board, I assume he is talking about Amherst NY....As far as I know there is no upcoming exam for Amherst NY.

I'm not positive about this, but having lived in the WNY 'burbs I'd guess it's somewhere around the 38-40K mark, maybe higher. Some other suburban departments are in that range too.

As for whether they're hiring from the current list, I'm not sure. HTH.

Amherst hires off the Erie County list.

What "Erie County List", do you mean that there is a county wide exam for the Amherst PD ? I have a friend who is in the academy as we speak he tested for the Tonawanda Police Dept. only, is was not county wide as I understood it.

My cousin is Orchard Park PD and used to be an Erie County Sheriff's Deputy. He told me the sheriffs can hire off of the list for each local PD in Erie County and each local PD can hire off of the list for Erie County Sheriff's Deputy.

All correct. Within Erie County, only the city (Buffalo) and NFTA have their own exams; all the burbs and the sheriffs dept. are from the same exam and list. (Not sure about Lackawanna).
