NYPD Hercules Teams

I have a few question about the NYPD Hercules squad, if anybody can answer them much appreciated.

I was wondering what are the formation of the team.
How many "Hercules" squads are out there.
How were the team member chosen?

I tried to use Google and such to find extra info on these guys, but aside from the basics there really isn't many details available. You have been very helpful providing info to us in the past and I was hoping to return the favor on some level. But I have failed.... :( ..... Best of luck in your search!
