I am currently trying to find a job with law enforcement and would like to know if I would be a good candidate. If so, I would like to know which area of the country I would be the best possible candidate at. First the good. I am a currently a senior cadet at The Citadel and I am finishing up my degree over the summer. I was awarded a medal for saving a classmates life. I worked for the Boy Scouts for six summers and eventually made my way up to Shooting Sports Director. I have already passed two FBI background checks, one for my CCW and one for my FFL and have no criminal record to speak of. My character references include a diplomat, Colonel in the Marines and Lawyer. The not so good. I have been fired from one job, though it was a misunderstanding and I have since been offered the job back after several dozen people protested on my behalf. I have smoked marijuana seven times, mostly in high school twice after high school. I have used Adderall, Percocet, Morphine and Codeine, all of which were given to me by a doctor. I also contracted lyme disease while working for the Boy Scouts. Finally I was placed in handcuffs once. I was going to the summer camp that I work at and since I was the Shooting Sports Director I decided to bring my firearms along. I was pulled over a block away from my house with my friend, who is an eagle scout working at another camp, and around twenty firearms in the vehicle. All of the firearms were legally stored separate from ammunition in the trunk. We were placed in handcuffs until I proved that I had an FFL, CCW, was a cadet and until my friend proved we were eagle scouts heading to work at a Boy Scout camp.

of course this questions are always tough to answer....
however....the only real issue i see on your list is the perscription drug stituation. the BI will want to know how many pills, how many times, did you sell any, were they all pescribed to you, they will want to talk to the doctor....also it what sense are we talking....specifically the morphine.
where you given the meds for a legit medical problem, had leftovers..they later and unrelated to the intial purpose the meds took them to "get high"?
all that will come into play. so be prepared.

You should be OK, there are tons of agencies looking for people.
If you like traditional police work - Go local/city/county/state
If you prefer traffic work - Go state police/patrol (MdTA, MSP, VSP, CHP, etc)
Most fedreal agencies don't perform traditional police work (buy/bust, VICE, traffic) so do your homework before you shotgun resumes so you don't waste your/agencies time.
Also - Try using multiple paragraphs instead of one giant one.

I have no clue how many times I have taken Adderall. It was prescribed when I was in 2nd grade for ADD and I have been on it since Senior/Freshmen year of college. The codeine was in cough syrup all when I was growing up and had strep throat. The morphine and percocet was only two times I believe. It was a morphine drip. The first time was for a colonoscopy Knob year, the second time was when I was getting my wisdom teeth removed.
I have never taken anything I had left over to get high. I did have a bottle of Adderall left over after I when off of it to attempt to get a military contract. After I found out I could not get it I was advised to start re-taking the adderall to see if their was a need to get re prescribed it. On that note I have also received several blister packs containing a new type of medication from my doctor on several occasions.
I may also be participating in a medical study this summer to get some money. The study requires me to take an amphetamine and gage my performance over the course of a few months.
I am sorry my posts have been so long. I just want to get the best possible advise. I also took an oath “not lie, cheat steal or tolerate those who do” four years ago and I wan to uphold that to the best of my ability

Zouave,
Listen, your question is so broad, no one can possibly answer your questions for you. From what I can gather, it does not sound like you have taken any prescription drugs without being under doctor's care, so don't worry about it. Smoked a little weed when you were younger? Not a big deal. So has most of the rest of the world. Just be honest when it comes to having a background check. But keep in mind, the background checks you will have for law enforcement, local or federal, are generally much more in depth than for your CCW or FFL. Most employers understand we all do stupid stuff when we were younger. As long as it's not a pattern, don't worry it.
OK, to your employment questions. #1: Figure out what you want to do. Do you want to do local law enforcement? Federal law enforcement? Uniformed? Non uniformed/investigative/special agent-type positions? #2: Figure out where you want to work.
Once you've answered those questions, you can narrow down to which departments you want to apply. But to be honest, these broad-spectrum "I want a job in law enforcement" questions are nearly IMPOSSIBLE to answer without answering the above two questions first.

I am looking for preferably local and uniformed. Since my girlfriend will be getting a job at an NGO after she finishes her masters I am looking for something in the DC area. Because I want to eventualy move to the DC area I might even look for federal LE if the job does not require much moving, allthough I know it is doubtfull.
i really think you are ok as long as you are honest w/ any agency that you apply and everything is listed. you have no criminal records so that's good.
my advice is that just talk w/ any recruiter about your situation and i'm sure they can analyse your chance better than anyone here and i dont see any problem in your situation. just remember that you are trying to become a cop so stay out of any trouble or dont allow yourself to get into any bad situation.
for example, get into a fight, DUI, or not paying bills on time. use your common sense. you need to show you are a very matured person.
responsibility is the key.it sounds very simple but it seems like many people have trouble following this.
good luck dude!!!
