Well, it would rid California of three of its poorest counties. Too many hippies and spotted owls in Del Norte anyway. Probably a good idea. :p

I don't know what the state of Jefferson is.

To plagiarize a bit from Wikipedia

It was a movement back in the late 30's and early 40's (mainly tongue in cheek) of three northern California countries and a few southern Oregon counties to secede and form their own state, which would be named Jefferson. The purpose was to call attention to the poor state highways in the region, which at the time were oiled dirt roads that became impassable in rain or snow, and were handicapped by limited economic development.

On November 27, 1941, a group of young men gained national media attention when, brandishing hunting rifles for dramatic effect, they stopped traffic on U.S. Route 99 south of Yreka, and handed out copies of a Proclamation of Independence, stating that the state of Jefferson was
in "patriotic rebellion against the States of California and Oregon" and would continue to "secede every Thursday until further notice."

When WWII started, the Jefferson movement quietly disappeared as everyone focused on the war effort.

Personally I would love to dump anything south of Santa Barbara into the ocean (or give it back to Mexico). But that is just me.. :D

hey, buddy! I "live" below Santa Bah- burrrr 'ah !!! Besides what about "Da' OC"??? they'll build barricades and machine gun posts to stop the capitulation to ol' Me-he-co !!!(or else there would be alot of haphazardly strung power and phone lines, even MORE unlic'd and UNINSURED junker taxis on the broken and uncared for streets, dead dogs lying on the sidewalks, even more urine smellling alleyways, and a whole mess diseased donkeys for local kids to ride to death at disneyland and magic mountain)

I don't know if you remember, but 15 or 20 years ago there was a big movement to split California into two states, North California and South California. The people of San Francisco were all for it. They wanted to be in North California and have no part of Los Angeles so badly that it hurt. The snide remarks that they directed at their southern neighbors cut to the quick. When the final draft of the legislation or ballot initiative came out (I don't remember which it was) the line had been drawn north of San Francisco, making them part of South California. The screams of agony from San Francisco were so loud that you would have though they had descended into the bowels of Hell.

The problem is that all of the resources are in Northern Cal, and the population is in SoCal. Without water from the north El Lay would be one big desert.

I would like to revisit the separation issue. We are two or three separate states depending on where you live. Perhaps have a No Cal, Central Cal, and So Cal would work. We would sell our water to the south at a large premium. :D

state boundries havent stopped us from stealing water from Nevada or Arizona.

Let me guess - you are from Weed...

:D

I've been known to dabble in Weed a time or two...

Three States sounds good to me. The Sacramento River starts up here, so I think we'd hold the cards on the water supply. And Sacramento itself can certainly be the Capital of Central California.

You can have Sacramento. We can make Benecia the state capitol of the new Central CA. Sacto is a craphole now. My bro was transferred there from Central LA and says he has had more problems in 2 years at the capital, than 10 years in LA. (too many wannbe gangbangers).

May I ask what part of the north state you are from? My wife and I were thinking about buying some property in Paradise or perhaps near Lake Alamaor for a retirement home (in only 15 years - lol)

We are thinking Yreka, shasta area ourselves. heading there for vacation in August just to check it out. (I know I'm of topic)

A bit further north of Paradise would be better, although you would get more snow. Paradise was once a retirement center, back in the 30's. Now, it is a meth center. Just like rundown neighborhoods, where the old generation dies and the scummy younger generations inherited the property without working for it. Paradise is an entire rundown town. Almanor would be the better of the two, although it would cost more nowadays than Paradise and nearby.
