i was searching up on the police codes, and i was able to find a full list of codes here: http://www.pimall.com/nais/n.radio.code.html

Then i also found a much smaller list here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Police_code

are you expected to lean all those codes from the first link in the academy or just the codes from the second link? When on duty, do you need to know all the codes from the first link?

can someone give me feedback on this site? http://www.policeexamprofessor.com/Police_Departments/California.asp
i would like to learn as much information as possible to being a police officer. Im wondering if its worth the $50?

every department is different, don't waste time learning any until you know where you'll be working.

Each dept uses different 10-codes...so there is no need to remember anything right now.

The second list is good to know but you will always carry a small penal code in your duty bag (for the not often used ones). What's important is knowing the elements of a crime. Without all the elements.... the crime isn't completed...and the DA wont charge.

Save your money and sign up for a ride along. (It's not like COPS on tv) No website is going to give you information needed to become a cop.

im just trying to read up on some general knowledge if possible, have something to study before being able to go to an academy or a ride along, i dont even really know what to ask the officer that i would be riding along with "do you like it?" how much you making? did you shoot anyone?

should i ask what the interview is like? or what the test is like? but i can ask that here since we have some officers on the board right?

Those questions will get you the quickest ridealong ever..like a uturn back to the station. Ride along and observe.

Of course we like it or we wouldn't be doing it. How much we make has nothing to do with being a cop. Have we ever shot anyone? Is probably the dumbest question ever.

You can search the forum for all of your interview, test, physical agility etc.

i was trying to be funny with the first example of questions :) and why "if you shot anyone" question be really dumb, is it because they get askwed that all the time or because its personal?

10-7 could mean someone has died at my department. Code-7 is a lunch break, though only the old salts who don't ever do anything actualy take them. On the shift I am on people ask for code-7 over the air as a joke because the dispatchers know that noone would actualy ever take one. 10-48s are short breaks that we sometimes take to get a quick bite to eat.

10-48: 15 mins
code-7: 30 mins
