No one can tell you when DEA will be hiring again, even the people who work for DEA. There are so many starts that have to line up for DEA to start every new class, it's really amazing when it does happen.

I know some successful female DEA agents with kids. It would be a lie to tell you that they don't have some challenges to do the job, but many do it well.

As mentioned above good luck. It seems like everytime the DEA says they might be hiring they all of a sudden have budget problems and the freeze continues. They had a few diversion positions open a few months ago but those were gone pretty quick. I have a buddy that used to work DEA from what I have gathered its easier to get on a task force through your local agency than it is to get hired by them. But I do know that the guys that work for the DEA are usually a tight group and once their in they usuall don't get out unless they are either forced to or retire, most of them have to much fun.

I applied with the DEA in March of '05, my application was frozen in '06, and I just took (and passed) the written and Panel Interview yesterday....I was told that I was in the last group to be processed from the aforementioned hiring freeze....No one there knew when another vacancy announcement will open up.
