I'm close to getting a FOE (I believe), but am not there yet, so I have many questions regarding when and how. I know where (DC/GA), and I know who (DSS, duh, LOL), but the when and how are killing me. I'm married, and it makes things difficult in terms of what to do with the spouse while at training. My wife's foreign, so she wouldn't be too comfortable staying alone in any area where I'm not around.

Our options:
-I go to training, she goes with me to DC the first time, visits her country while I'm in GA (and hopefully works some small PT job while in her country!), then comes back when I go back to DC for training and lives with me at an apartment.
-I go to training, she goes with me to DC and we get an apartment where she'll stay at, even when I go to GA. She can then settle in DC and start looking for (temporary) work.
-I go to traininig, she goes with me to DC and GA, getting an apartment at each place as I'm there. Likely she won't be working at all.
-I go to training, she stays in Cali in our current apartment while she continues to work.
-I quit!!

Anyway, I'm wondering how other married folks are dealing with the whole thing. And, of course, any other spousal issues. I'm sure lurking wives also want to communicate their feelings about all this.

lapd...

hey once you get done with FSI with is the first 3 weeks and state department orientation they will tell you which field office you will be assigned to once you get done with training....

if you get assigned to washington....the washington field office is very close to the ds training center where you will spend 3 months after FLETC...so it may be wise to wait until after FSI then if you get washington field office you guys can get an apartment then once you get back from FLETC you will be done moving...

imall, you're right; didn't think about that. Thanks! Definitely something to think about. It would help with the UAB as well, since she's really annoyed that we won't be able to get it until after all the training (I'm fine with it, former military, but she's definitely not. Bah.). If we get DC, then it would make everything much easier. No per diem pay would suck, but oh well.

How about if we get NY or CHI, though? Suggestions on that? Thanks. Looking forward to hearing what other spouses think of this situation. Prior military wives are gold in this situation!
