Hey guys

So far, i've been to Newport's orientation and HB will be next week. Irvine unfortunatley wont' be until the 1st of next month.

I was wondering if I could get any opinions on any of these departments?
At Newport's orientation, the Officer giving the orientation was proud of their pay and selective nature, saying they are one of the highest paid departments and still maintain a very selective group of officers (only but the best).

If i could get feedback on the rest, especially Irvine, it'd be of great assistance.

Thank you.

i think there's already a thread on most of those departments. most people will tell you to avoid irvine pd. out of the ones u listed, it sounds like HBPD is the best choice. there are other good OC agencies out there. money isn't always everything. recruiters tend to over exaggerate some info.

Newport would be the best of those choices, very high pay all the toys. they have the best officer to cop ratio in the county...like twice the number ot he #2 agency. Many people say thats because of all the summer visitors to the beach, but other beach cities dont have those numbers. they have an interesting shift sytem where basically you work what days you want every month. they have SGT who works out the schedule. Of course new guys will work the weekend but I am told even the boots can get a weekend off if they really need it.

If you want to talk about a awesome shift system, I really really really like Irvine's.

If you choose 4x10, you work Monday ~ Thursday.
If you choose 3x12, you work Friday ~ Saturday.

How sick is that? I wish other departments would have something similar to this..

we worked it for a while but management didnt like it. Basicaly you have four 4-10 shifts and 3 3/12 shifts so you have a 4 in 7 chance of weekends off. The only problem was the department gets cut into two parts with one part never seeing the other. There was some politics about that. Our weekenders starting griping that the work load was uneven since there is way more crime on the weekends and started asking to get one of the weekend days off. The rest if us said "Your not getting the point here..if we worked 4 days per week and worked the weekends it would suck to be us" So managemnt took it away just because of the whiners.

Our 4-10 shifts work Sunday thru Wednesday, and Wednesday thru Saturday. Our overlap day is Wednesday (and we are short of cars, so we have training or just give people the option of taking the day off). Everyone loves the shift since we get 1 weekend day off (and the opportunity to get Wednesday off too). It works pretty well. And our HSB gets 3-12's. That is always a sweet deal, especially if you work the graveyard shift with Thurs, Fri and Sat off. You come in on Sunday at 8 PM and you are off all of fri, all of Sat and all but 4 hours of Sun. Sweet gig! And we have no whiners in regards to the shifts....:D

How do San Diego PD and Oceanside PD rate as compared to Newport Beach PD?
