I was watching the news and saw a story for Ratemycop.com. This web site is getting the names of every cop in the country and posting them on line. They are able to do it under the "Freedom of Information Act” and the idea is so the public can say if you are a good cop or not. The news story said that they bought all the names from LAPD for $8 but LASD wanted $1450 for their list, which the company doesn’t want to pay as of the news story. The Sheriff spokesperson said the Act says the names have to be available but not how much to charge.
I was curious and went on to Ratemycop.com and found several cops rated good, more than I would have thought. Then I discovered that they have a forum to talk in and my blood pressure has not been the same since. I honestly forgot how many of the people we protect truly hate us. The rational behind these good citizens mind set is amazing. If you decide to check out this site and respond to the ranting of the good citizens, don’t mention you’re a cop. It will absolutely drive them nuts to think there is a citizen out there that sides with the police.
Stay safe.
