but I want to see if someone can give me some insight, maybe the likes of a background investigator? I'm currently in the military ( USMC ) and about to get out in about 5 months and already applied for the LAPD and also planning on applying for other depts as well.

What I want to know is personal as not to put my business out there. Please PM if you can help me out on some insight about my background check. I have nothing to hide but I do want to know my chances of getting it even with my background. Granted the worst thing I did was get arrested for a ticket (failure to have updated insurance card) that turned into a warrant because I forgot about it. I'm orginally from Texas so all my past really happened there.

Now I know that not just one thing can really DQ you but many "small" things can. If you can help please once again PM or email me at

arteaga-81@hotmail.com Any help would be appreciated.

I work the city of L.As' Airport PD,but we have the same background standards and basic training as our larger LAPD brethren-try calling our internal background unit @(310)646-0500 and ask to speak to a background investigator-just phrase it as you wanting to be an applicant for this job and ask if your "issues" are a serious enough concern to prohibit you from a police officer position with the city of L.A.

Within the last couple of years, there was an LAPD class of 44 recruits. Half of them....22....had been arrested. I have no data on arrests vs. convictions, misdemeanor vs. felony, whatever. An arrest for a ticket that went to warrant should be no problem.

But as always....what else do you bring to the table when compared to the others in the applicant pool. Best of luck.

Also check out this website:

policebackground.net

It's run by an LAPD background investigator and most if not all of the members are in the process or on-the-job.
