Hi,

My name is Adam and im 18 years old. I really want to be a police officer but still trying to figure out where. I currently reside in Washington State. Im finishing up my AA degree and right now want to transfer schools to a location I like to get my bearings before I try to become an officer. I have applied for jobs in both Honolulu and Southern California as well as Santa Barbara area. I am straight Haole (or white for those that dont know) so is it as hard as everyone says to fit in? Also any advice on the PD's there? what kind of calls and what volume do they come in?

thanks,
Adam

Aloha Adam,

I work for the Honolulu Police Dept, as a patrol unit. In Honolulu we have a lot of property crime (car break ins, burglary, auto theft, theft). We have a fair share of "hot" calls as well like Domestic violence, assault, rape, and sometimes murder. I believe last year we had about 70 traffic related fatalities.....

As far as the call for cases volume i average about 4-7 written reports day. I work the 3rd watch hours (2:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M.) so it is a little busier than 1st or 2nd watch.

For the haoule thing i really would not worry about that. Recently we have had a lot of mainland recruits come into HPD. At times some of the locals will refer to you as Haole but do not take that the wrong way because in Hawaii every race has a nick name.

Funny you talk about coming to Hawaii since you are in Washington. I plan on transferring to Washington to work.....

Anyways sir i hope that the info helps you out......
