So I passed the Ft. Lauderdale PD oral board. Now on to the b.i. ...anyone else in process for FLPD, or completed the psych/ poly/ medical part? How good are they in going through these, timewise? (I know that Miami-Dade, for example, takes forever).

Think it has been about 1.5-2 months between the CJBAT and my Medical. I'm not officially hired yet though...completed my medical and now I'm just waiting and hoping.

How difficult was the oral board for those who took it and pass??

That depends on whether you are certified or non-certified. For those that are certified, the oral board counts for 100% of your total score. If you do bad, your chances of getting hired are very low in the hiring process. For those that are non-certified, your CJBAT score along with the oral counts as your total score.

The oral board is not that difficult as long as you are able to articulate and express yourself well. Most of the questions asked come from your PHQ and any deviation from what you have there will not favor you at all. The oral board for certified officers is a little harder and the question included here are situation questions geared towards certified PO’s.

Depending what you score will put you on a ranking system. Top 5 ranks have immediate hiring priority. You can be up to the 10th rank and still have a chance. Anything above this decreases your chances of getting hired.

How long did the Oral board take....non-sworn interest?

Mine took some 25 minutes. One civillian, two uniformed (a sargent and a lieutenant) interviewers. It wasn't the most pleasant interview I have attended, but it's not supposed to be. Still, was able to pass it. Make sure you remember everything you put in your questionaire, they will ask you questions directly from it. Then, some situation questions, some about your background, motivations, etc.

Besides the HR rep, in my board I had one sergeant, one lieutenant and a major. They drill me on everything from violent domestics to officer safety. The use of force matrix was a major topic and one that they wanted me to elaborate. For those that are non-certified your board will consist mostly of your background on your PHQ. Again, make sure that you are prepared to answer questions in detail about everything and anything you filled out in your questionnaire.

I heard Fort Lauderdale is a good place to work. I was thinking of applying there. I just failed an oral board for Boca Raton, I dont know why but it seemed like they were looking for people with experience. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to b better prepared? Im going to go on several ride alongs with different departments to see what each is like. Congratulations on passing!

I was non certified but had a reserve police academy training. They also drilled me on violent domestics and officer safety. Also if the scenario had discretion or no discretion. Just listen carefully and take time in your response and you will be fine.

Hello All,

I'm scheduled for my Oral board interview this March. Can anyone who recently passed the Oral Interview provide some feedback?

What type of questions will be asked?
How long is it?
How long does it take for you to receive notice if passed/fail?

Thanks

What type of questions will be asked?

It will very, just be ready to answer the most common questions. There are threads that cover the subject.

Beside it wouldn't be fair if we told you what they where going to ask.

How long is it?

Figure approximately 20 minutes, give or take five or ten minutes. But it will depends on you answers and the type of questions asked.

How long does it take for you to receive notice if passed/fail?

You will know right away. Once the interview ends you will be asked to wait outside as they evaluate you. Then someone will tell you the results. If you pass they will take you upstairs to speak to an Detective. If your ranked in the top five you will continue in the process. If you pass but not in the top five you will be placed on their legibility list and then just wait and hope they get to you. If you fail I guess the will tell you so and send you on your way.

Good luck

PS100 - Congrats...

Hello All,

Thanks

One of the questions they will begin to ask is, "Have you researched and or asked others about any of the possible questions that would be asked during the Oral Interview?".

It's OK to read and learn as much as you can about the interview process and hiring process for that matter. But to specifically ask what will be asked during the Oral Board is not fair to those that had to wing it and think on their feet, like you are supposed to.

And to all applicants, keep in mind these forums are open and public, a dedicated Detective can easily put two and two together and track you via your postings. Hence it's not wise to post something like I have an Oral Board on so and so date, what will I be asked?

I've been through the tedious hiring process and I really do wish you all luck and eventual success. Again just be mindful of what you post. I'm not a BI, but If I were internet forums and facebook would be a goldmine of information on ones character and for a few a potential minefield.

Oh and just to clarify they are not likely to ask question I mentioned.

To all those in the process with FLPD continued success and may the best candidates win.
