Thanks for posting the article because I am one of the forty plus Village Public Safety Officers in the state of Alaska. We were formed by the Department of Public Safety and are attached to the State Troopers for the very reason to provide first response in the areas of police,EMS,fire and SAR. Hench our mooto:first responders,last frontier. Problem being of course that our numbers are low and that is why this legislative session a new pay scale and other changes are being made to try to recriuit and retain officers.
