View Full Version : OCSD Medical and Background Questions

Hi everyone,
I am new here and currently going through the process with OCSD (CA) also. I have the medical and background left and was wondering if someone could possibly answer these questions for me as this is my first time going through the process.

1. Took the PAT and written 12/15/07 and just got a letter back from medical saying I can not be medically approved until 5/30/07 which is 6 months from the time I had lasik. Does anyone know if I will have to start the process all over? Is there a time frame after you pass your test that everything has to be completed by?

2. When I was in the militart I worked part time at a Pizza Hut in South Carolina that was individually owned. Nobody I knew works there still and the owners are gone. Will this affect me getting the job? There is no corporate office for individually owned locations and no HR. Virtually no way to verify I worked there for the few months i did.

1. They will put everything on hold till you pass the medical. OCSD does everything backwords. They do Medical, Psyc and poly (if your picked for one) before backrounds. I dont think you will have to do your PAT or written again.

2. You will be asked to contact the Pizza hut and get the contact info for the current store manager or possibly owner. Tehy will be able to forward employment records to you B.I. These days every company keeps employment records. I worked at McDonalds 20 years ago and they still had all kinds of info from when I worked there. I had to get it recently because I am in backgrounds with an OC agency for a lateral spot.

I've passed my psych, oral, written and physical already, but the department probably wont even send my verification out until i get cleared on my medical?? I'd ask my BI, but he just went on vacation for something like 3 weeks. Its just stressful thinking I might have to through everything again. Does anyone know if there is a deadline on when things have to be done? I met a guy who didn't get his transcripts for 6 months and they made him restart the whole process.

I worked backgrounds for a short period of time. My department told me they used the POST guidelines and I have to admit that I never went on POST to verify. Departments can be stricter than POST but not more lax.

Written and Oral Exams are good for one year from the date they were taken. They want to have everything done in 1 year or less. The reason is if they go over that you could have something change (DMV, Credit Report, Civil Suits, etc.). Your Medical and Psych are also good for one year. Every department has a different view of Polygraphs.

As for the job history. I always found it weird when I was told something like that. I don’t doubt you’re being honest but it always sounds like there is something bad there. Go talk to the new Store Manager first and see if he has your old HR stuff. If they do, don’t worry about it. If they don’t, when they get the mailer they should state that on the mailer. Tell your BI up front about the problem, we don't like surprises.

I wouldn’t worry about either until May 30th.

My poly was the absolute last step, everything was done, then one day I got a call for a polu then a few days later I did my Sheriff's interview. Make sure you know all of your memorization work including 5's and 12's before you show up to the academy if you get hired.
