yes i've heard not so good on Brea. i worked for an agency very close to them and brea had a bad rep. one of my FTO's wife works at Brea PD so i the information i got was accurate. is there a reason you're looking at such a small OC city , since you're in AZ? there are lots of better agencies.

Did EDJ give you the 411 on Brea PD? Don't even consider going there or you will be sorry. Never been stabbed in the back so many times. I'm lucky I made it out alive. I'd call all those admin guys out in this form by name however I'm not Fu$%ed up like them and have true integrity.
... and thats just his way of "being polite"-LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!! My experience with BPD? They PULLED a GUN on me and a LASD Dep I hung out with on a T/Stop( after the Dep id'ed himself and said he had a gun on him !)
Unsat for any CA PD

After the deputy ID'd himself!!!!!!!!!!!!! There's something seriously wrong with that officer, if not the entire agency!!!

my dep buddy was taking me over to a family get together ( his wifes' family) and the t/stop occurred becuase my bud drove ( then) a dark maroon chev. impala SS-stock for its design(Compton Deps from '99 to 2004 probably know who I'm talking about),but the officer was "fishing" and my buddy tried to joke with him about being "overly official",and when asked if he "had a gun in the car"-old bud replied "yes"- i'm a deputy sheriff ,then flashed his LA co star and id- the officer yelled for him not to move!(yeah, like a thug is going to pull out a REAL police id and sit politely and id himself as a cop)-this led to a ****ing match, a BPD Sgt was called and a lame-o excuse to let a ctzn complaint die was peddled.i told a co worker ,who now lives there about the incident several yrs ago,and he agreed ,saying they are "just dicks"- no PD or Sheriffs is perfect ,but to get dissed by fellow cops like that, especially when you haven't done anything ,nor caused a scene ,is wrong.Bad news travels fast and first hand experiences leave a sour taste in the mouths of some. Not that I'll see a Brea cop up in my neck of the woods, but even if I did ,I sure as heck would NOT be so disrespectful...

Ive heard that they like to burn other cops as well. However, I live in their patrol area (YL) and one time I was driving w/o my lights on in a well lit area, got t/stopped for possible DUI, I IDed myself and it was "have a nice night." Maybe I got lucky...

A certain SGT (Needham) now a Captain stopped an off-duty Fullerton cop for running a red light. He had another patrol guy do him for DUI and I had to do the breath test. The Fullerton cop was an .08%.
After that other OC agencies banded together and had a shirt made that said no on 22 which was Brea's station number. Then every time you would book someone into Orange County jail they would put your paperwork at the back of the line and take forever.
It wasn't just the DUI arrest, but all the other BS also. Not enough time to lay it all out on this thread.
I heard a similar story from one of our guys who used to work at another smaller agency in LA County. They had a guy in his final weeks of probation until a Brea PD T-Stop for "speeding" turned DUI investigation resulting in a "forced blood draw" with a use of force. Needless to say, the probationer was terminated even though his lawyer was successful in the case.
I'm glad the only business I have in Brea is going to ProForce maybe once a year if that. Even then, I drive very very very carefully.

Went to the academy with a Brea guy, now Sgt. He was a top notch guy back then, I hope he hasn't changed. Haven't seen him since graduation though. Never had a run in with 22. Usually this board is pretty good about not calling others out so it must be bad there.

Wow, sounds like Brea PD and Gilbert PD in AZ here would get along fine..DOACOP,,that is unbelievable..what ever happened to the IA Beef filed? Someone identifies themself as an LEO and you pull a gun on him knowing he is an LEO..sounds like Aggravated Assault with a Weapon to me and something for the County Attorney to look into. I know unions are a little better in Cali then in AZ,, were any calls made to this wack jobs union about the issue.?

check your PM. The unions are as strong as the members who are part of it-some agencies take it in the rear from oppressive and backward leadership, some are stuck on their leadership and never beef, then some ,like ALADS or LAPPL, will MASH their mgm't if they get out of hand- that knuckle head was a rookie and he didn't point it at my parnter ,just drew it in what we'd call a "rude and intimidating " manner-typical dumb rookie stuff that could get such a small fry disarmed and worse If it had been some real thugs. Its been a few yrs so MAYBE Brea PD has changed in terms of thinking they are "alone" in the world-i wouldn't know as I DON'T plan on rolling thru there to find out! As DUI eliminator and EDJ have said - there ARE better choices to apply for in the OC or in so.calif.

Why lump Gilbert in there? I've heard nothing but great things about that department.

I've heard Orange PD is a pretty good place to work. Still a nice city, but busy enough so there's always something to do.
One of my long time friends works there and he's pretty happy.

Ive heard good things about them too. I plan to moonlight with them as a reserve (their reserves make good money), however I dont know if LAPD will authorize it....so we'll see.

Berlioz!!! sounds like you plan on "beating feet" to da' "OC" already???!!! If you were to work a reserve position in OPD ,I got a feeling you'd never come back to the LA county border again !!!:D ( thats okay, there's crime everywhere ,but some OC dept RTOs sound sexier than our LA city folks, and you'd miss the 18th streeters and rollin '60s)

Nah, I actually really enjoy working in "da hood". I just know that Im going to have to work a second job anyway, so I figure OPD would be a better use of my time than standing around a parking lot for 20 some odd an hour.:p

I dont think you can have two badges like that, at least I have never heard of anyone doing it. We used to have someguys that were in specialty PD but theyhad to quit I think it was a POST rule...(One was DMV PD and the other was El Camino College PD)
Can we call it 'Nuff said on Brea?

try costa mesa pd reserves if you want $25.32/hr. or why not work overtime? isn't that more money?
not sure what lapd's policy is on being a reserve. but here at LASD, we have a reserve who is a full time santa school police and another that is a CBP officer. so i guess it can be done.

Beriloz, one of my training officers for my pre-academy at 32 is a former LAPD SWAT member. He says he came to GG because he is allowed to be a cop. He told us today that choking somebody out in LA is grounds for a use of force investigation?? In OC its common practice. He said in LA you may as well shoot someone if you have to choke them out. He likes it here, hes pretty seasoned too, in other words hes a bad MF'er.

Se7ven , Gilbert is like the Brea of AZ, maybe worse. When you mess with other cops ...you get dissed by other cops. When other cops think about lateraling to your agency, you get responses like what you see in this thread. I would not want to work with cops that screw with other cops. If a cop does something serious enough that he has to be cited or arrested so be it. Everyone has a different definition of what serious is. But pulling a weapon on another cop after he idemtified himself is ridiculous. When you hear one story that can sometimes be BS. When everyone jumps on a forum and tells me Brea is jacked up, I would have no reason to doubt the advice of my brothers in Cali.

Actually, so do I!
I feel like I tellingbed time stories here...I dont agency trash on the public forum...well maybe just this once..
Once upon a time several K-9 units were training at a building in Brea. You get the picture, lots of Police cars parked in front of the place, big letter K-9 on the doors. Well they set of the alarm. As they came out of the building they hear in a shrill voice "Freeze! Who are you!!???" as Brea confronts them..legend has it that it was at gunpoint but I can not confirm that. I was not there but I did hear it direct from those that were.
This by the way was done by an officer we fired for...hmmm how should I say it? utter stupidity. Example of this is kind of long but I think worth it.
Officer puts out he is behind rolling stolen. She, almost immedialty, says she is following that officer. Long story short everybody arrives bad guys get arrested but she is not actually there...we call her on radio "Ummm arent you supposed to be out here?" She tells us that she was behind the officer but he drove into the back lot of another agencies station and she was outisde the parking lot and could not get in. She not only was behind the wrong unit entirely, and at the wrong place, but the car she was following was from another agency.

I know a FT OCSD dep that's a NBPD reserve at $25 plus per hour. It doesn't violate any POST rule but I would think you would have a hard time getting most agencies to OK it. Can you imagine the problem with having two diff policies and getting into a shooting or something?
Sell cars or something. I sell for a contractor. I make more selling for one to two hours then I'd make in 20 hours of OT.

I sold cars for about 3 years, and I was good at it. But, since I gave great deals, I didn't make much. I make a LOT more on OT now. But I can save a LOT of money buying a car now.
