Hate to beat a dead horse, but it seems that the city of Maywood refuses to do the right thing by its officers or citizens ( actually non-U.S.,but "haven" city residents).According to the L.A. times recently Maywood PD rehired and promoted formerly terminated officer Al Hutchings to the position of interim chief of Maywood PD;Hutchings had previously been terminated from LAPD for overtime compensation fraud ( which he pleaded "no contest" to in court also) as well as terminated from a teaching post with the L.A. comm. college district for "dishonesty".while not even completing probation at Maywood PD, Hutchings was allowed to resign after an internal investigation caught him engaged in on duty sexual relations with a local female business owner. Despite the vehement demand by the Maywood POA and the city attorney that he NOT be rehired ,Maywood Mayor Felipe Aguirre has hailed Hutchings as a "reformer" who will clean up the Dept.Hutchings has also proclaimed himself a "whistle blower" intent on changing the brutal and corrupt ways of the Dept,or see to it that the Dept is absorbed by the LASD.

Hutchings replaces the former interim chief- an officer who was forced to resign from El Monte PD after commiting domestic violence-same officer later pleaded to a lesser charge of "verbal threats" in court.According to the article ,nearly 1/3 of the dept of nearly 30+ officers have come to Maywood PD after resigning or being terminated from other depts-for many its a "last stop" dept or a 1st step before going to other more stable area organizations.with a mostly hisp (95%) ,lower middle class population to serve, and high crime ,Maywood PDs salary is lower than most area depts ($52K to $68K/yr) and that has often been the problem with attracting better applicants like most of the area depts.

After reading the article ,I simply don't understand what the mindset of the local civilian mgm't is -maybe they are so wallowed deep in filth and corruption ,'til they just don't care as long as their "type" of gov't continues to exist-sooner or later the dist Atty ,the state atty general ,the FBI or all three are going to come down on the city of Maywood........

From what i have heard, Maywood has always been a corrupt area. i had hutchings as a prof. and he seemed to be an all around great guy. its sad to hear (and my bro-in-law showed me the paper, so, also to see) him in this mess. the above story is from the paper, and as we all know the paper likes to "fluff up" the story to sell (front page of california section). we'll just have to wait and see what happens. in the mean time i'll try to get in touch w/ my former prof. whom my bro-in-law keeps in touch with.

I remember these (and a few others within agencies within the SF area).

It's all about the "spin" and who you know!

There have been two instances in Northern California where the Under Sheriff (the highest appointed position in a Sheriff's Dept) committed a felony.

1. Former Undersheriff of San Francisco County SD was convicted about 10 years before his appointment to Undersheriff of manslaughter. I guess he couldn't carry a gun.

2. The current Under Sheriff of Alameda County committed insurance fraud and falsification of time cards (both felonies). He also allegedly had an affair with a subordinate which is a serious ethics violation. He was able to plead out to a simple misdemeanor and was able to resign his position as Cap't with the Hayward PD. (Most people would have been fired first). Fast forward 10 years later. He was able to get his record expunged. He was then rehired by the very same Chief who asked him to resign (he was the Sheriff by this time). I guess it pays to have friends in high places...

Sweet, I love all these mergers and takeovers....it just means more spots to fill for patrol! Perhaps we might see Maywood on a the station list. :D

Region II or III?

Since Maywood PD patrols nearby Cudahy, does that mean LASD will get back Cudahy???

It'll be interesting to see who they (the SD) will handle and deal with the officers they don't want........

Suppossedly, the 'take over' proposal got yanked back by the Maywood City council a couple of days ago........that doesnt mean it wont ever happen, but just that it might be on a back burner again....

Wont give up exact source, but it was brought up at the FOR II meeting yesterday..........and the question of what to do with the officers ect was a hot topic.....

Here is a new wrinkle, I dont know how this fits in but I find it interesting. The # 2 guy there, Frank Hauptmann, is a retired LT of ours. He is clean as a whistle and a very decent guy. No ethics issues..I mean ever, in fact he lost out on promotion with us because he wouldnt play the political games. When we heard he was over there we were floored. He was making way more $$$ in the private sector and I have no idea what the heck he is thinking. He is not even double dipping he had to freeze his pension.

I live in Cudahy, and I pray that Bell takes over Cudahy again and not LASD. Got nothing against LASD but the the ones that I interacted with before were not ones I would call on for help, unless I were a business owner in Cudahy.

No I'm not a cop, but I am a police volunteer.
