I interviewed with OPD a couple years ago. I ended up #1 on the list and still wasn't hired because I didn't have a degree at that the chief requires. It's not an official requirement but he wants it. A couple of my partners had the same basic experience.

The interview is simple. there is a Sgt and 2 or 3 ofcrs from the background unit. They will ask the typical questions like why you wanna work for them. They will ask what you know about the city so do your homework. They will give you a couple scenarios which are simple. One of the scenarios involves an ADW in which you see the susp has blood on his shoes. You ask him for his shoes and he says no. What do you do? Answer, the guy goes to jail barefoot. After the interview, you will sit in a chair outside the room while they talk about you. They will then tell you if you passed or not.

The guys are cool and laid back in the interview. Dress in a suit and be confident.

City facts
General law city with an elected mayor and city council
Own police and fire services
3 other law enforcement agencies within the city (SBSO, Ontario Airport and OPD).
Major international airport
6 school districts operate in the city
50 sq miles
Population 170,000
Approx. 200 sworn in OPD

That's about it.

I know a few people that have been hired lately that do not have a degree, but they definately give you extra points for a degree. Good luck.
