I was on my way through the state on I- 40 when I got pulled over by a deputy in a pick up. Said I was doing 85 in a "safety zone" asked to see the radar he told me no.... I handed him my DL with my Dept ID behind it insurance etc..... Came back to the car and gave me crap about having an IL DL but TN registration on the car that was owned by my father. He wrote me a mover, $80.... didnt explain to me that signing the ticket was an admission of guilt, said there would just be a penatly assesment and that would be the end of it. So anyway.... No love for an outta state copper coming through on vacation huh?

Doesn't resemble any experience I've had but I wasn't there.... You had options on the citation....pay the fine or contest in court. Of course he could've given you a warning which is where there is an admission of guilt.

Suppose I was ignorant to how New Mexico does things, signing the ticket in TN where I worked and also in IL where I also worked, signing the ticket is not an admission of guilt, it just states you recieved your copy of the ticket so there are no issues later.... You can send the ticket off pleading guilty, and pay a fine, get court supervision etc, or your can plead no contest and pay it, no points on your record. Point being I dont write cops where im from guess new mexico specifically Guadelupe Co. Sheriff doesnt believe in that. And If they ask to see the radar I show it to them, if im being honest I have nothing to loose. And I wasnt speeding, 85 is an outrageously unsafe speed, especially in my little 4 banger pontiac.

We don't have to show the radar and I am thinking that is why you go the ticket!
Keep a pic of a radar with you..when they ask to see the radar show them the pic lol

Writing tickets to fellow police officers for minor infractions is unprofessional and promotes disharmony among agencies. There are far too many people who deserve them for you to be writing us. Why ticket the guy who might be your only backup while you're geting your butt stomped on the side of the road one day. Many agencies run one-man cars and backup is often a long, long way away. Why alienate the one guy who might stop and help you?

This topic has been discussed a million times....but....why put that guy in a position to stop you? I really don't think that it is "unprofessional" to write someone a ticket. Perhaps, the right statement would be that it is unprofessional to speed.
Said I was doing 85 in a "safety zone" asked to see the radar he told me no....
How fast do YOU think you were going, and what was the speed limit? Being a cop, you know that asking another cop to see the radar is basically calling him a liar. At that point, a ticket is imminent.

Because minor traffic violations arnt a big deal. :D If you have a hard on for traffic theres easily 10+ people on the same road, doing the same thing or worse that arnt cops. Go bust their balls.

My old professor was on the job when he got pulled over in NM by a state trooper. He was courteous to the trooper, gave him his d/l, agency id and showed him his star. The trooper told him that he caught him on radar when he just went past the underpass. The trooper was on the on ramp. The trooper wrote him for speeding. All it takes is one to write another officer especially if they are out of state. One of my co-workers got written by Alaskan trooper, he showed him id & star.

Then you show your ID, which to you own admission in your avatar "Park Rangers get guns?"that your title doesn't automatically indicate you are a cop.
combine that with driving 85 in a safety zone and asking to see the Radar and I am certainly not thinking your a cop
But after you come on here and bash an agency by name I have no doubt why he wrote you.
How would you like it if someone from that SD started a thread that said National Park Rangers are unprofessional:
They drive like A-holes, argue with you about the stop, and then expect PC.
.
1: I was not with the DOI at the time, I had an ID and creds/star that says POLICE OFFICER on it.
2: I was not doing 85!
3: A: its the internet
B: freedom of speach, God Bless America
4: If he feels the need go ahead, God Bless America
and the reason my avatar says what it does, is because im quoteing the ignorant public who I hear that saying from time and time again because they do not know that Rangers are still Federal Law Enforcement Officers!

I don't write other cops.
BTW, we are not troopers. ;)

Unless the LEO commits a crime (i.e. DUI), I can't see EVER writing them a ticket. And all of you that think it is alright are jackasses. At most give a warning and let your brother/sister go on their way.

Up here if you are New York State Park Police or New York DEC there is not doubt you're a cop.
Don't forget us U.S. Park cops. Be safe brother.

If you think the cop that you pulled is being unprofessional swallow your pride, give him a piece of your mind and be done with it. If someone has concrete proof that they're LEO, I still wouldn't write. Save the ticket for the next guy. Plenty of people on the road.

That is hands-down the most ignorant statement I've heard on this board. In almost 15 years of being a cop, I've never written another cop a ticket but if he acted the way Ranger Rick did, then he'd be my first. I treat others the way I'm treated, cop or not. If someone disrespects me then they're not getting any breaks. I don't give a rat's ***** who they are.

Sounds like you're lucky he didn't write you for Defective Equipment as well. If your speedo displayed 75MPH when you were clocked at 85MPH, then clearly your speedo is defective.

This is a beaten topic, Some of you agree, some of you dont, regardless of how he interpreted my behavior which was as respectful as I could be. I failed to mention previously there were 2 officers! Im assuming he was a rookie over eager to write everything that moved on I-40 through his county. I got the ticket and I paid it. Suppose next time I go through new mexico I will go 10 under so they will clock me at the speed limit!

Glad someone gave parkcop the proper place to tell his story:
NM - Guadalupe County Eager Rookie
No love for an outta state cop on vacation. I was driving on I-40 through New Mexico on may way to meet some friends for vacation. It was late and I just pulled back on the road from stopping for gas in Santa Rosa, not even back up to the speed limit, I noticed two pick-up trucks sitting in the median. I passed and soon after the pick up pulled outta the median with all red lights flashing. I slowed down and he got in behind me. I stopped, He asked me to pull up some to get off the bridge I had stopped on. He came back up to the car and didn not introduce himself or what department he was with. He started with the typical "do you know why I stopped you?" I told him no, he stated I was speeding through a safety zone, he clocked me at 85. There were other cars and trucks passing him the same time I did. I said ok, I had the cruise set on 75 do you mind if I see your radar. He told me no that I had to stay in the car and asked for my info. I pulled out my DL and Insurance, and department ID. I handed it to him and he told me to stay here and he would be back. I noticed that he was not alone and he had a FTO over his shoulder. He was in his squad for about 5-10 minutes. He came back up to my car and told me he was giving me a ticket for 10 over in a safety zone. He stated that I could pay the ticket and that would be the end of it or come back to court. I had to make a decision on the scene. Knowing I would never be in NM again I agreed to just pay it. He handed me back all my info and I signed the ticket and he ripped the ticket in half trying to take it off the pad, He apologized and I said "its ok buddy ive been there" then he just turned away and walked off with out saying anything else. I was pretty upset about the matter, for several reasons. Not being from the area, I had no idea what red lights meant, and he made no effort to disclose the fact he was even the police to me. Second he obviously did not care that there may have been error in pulling over the right vehicles. Because as I remember in radar training, radar will always pick up the largest vehicle passing. And he made no effort to be cordial or friendly in our encounter. I paid it, and moved on with life. It still erks me though, that he wouldnt think twice about writing another cop. Someone who would stop for him if he was getting his *** kicked on the side of the road.
