I was wondering if anyone could tell me what a typical day would be at the Rochester PD academy. Also, what are the typical things a candidate will need to purchase once they are at the academy?
I have read that some candidates at other agencies need to purhase boots etc...
Thanks

The first week or so you will be in business attire, after that you will be issued your grey uniforms for the academy. You will need to buy black boots, 3x5 cards to put study questions and answers on. Get yourself some decent pens to write with, a notebook to fit in your upper breast pocket. I suggest you buy a spiral notebook so you can keep organized notes. Your three ring binders will be provided for you. Anything else will be dictated by the class counslor.

Thanks Tactical208.....I'm still waiting for my acceptance letter. Supposedly the academy is going to start on Feb 25th. When should we all expect our letters?

My BI explained to me that it would be something like a half day (morning) of physicial training (I think he said 5 mile run, then a few hours of "fighting") and then a half day (afternoon) of classroom instruction.
Regarding the acceptance letter, from someone I know who heard it directly from the Chief a couple weeks ago: letters *should* go out late jan/early feb. The waiting is killing me too...you have to figure they know who they are going to be accepting at this point.

Thanks for the info.....5 MILE RUN??
Don't worry about the running, i'm sure they don't start you off running 5 miles. They build you up to it. ;)

Don't worry about the running part, they build you up to it and it's only a few times, no biggie.
As far as half day classes, half day defensive tactics, that will be down the road, not right away. But yes your classes are usually broken up into half day of class room instruction and then either defensive tactics, role playing. When you get into firearms, then you'll be doing that all day at the range. Then you get to do your stress test and shooting....always fun LOL !.
