If your qualified and pass all the tests? or is there a long waiting period like most departments where you get on an eligibility list. I know NYPD is the biggest department in the U.S. thought it might be different than other departments. Im confident I would pass all the tests, just trying to figure out if its worth my time to fly out to NY to test.

thanks,
Joe

From what i have seen if you pass everything you’re pretty much in pretty quick I believe there’s 2 classes every year you just have to wait for the next one. I have also noticed as easy as it may be for some to get in I have seen candidates being held for really minor things.

There is a class every January and July of each year.

If you take an exam for example, tomorrow, and you pass all the other steps to get hired.. you can pretty much say you are good to go for the next class.

very nice!! Maybe it would be worth while to take the test this summer. I will definately consider this, its very hard to get a job out here in the Chicago area.

How is living expenses out there?

Thats a big problem.

Unless you saved up some cash, around 10k for rent and utlities to get by your first 6 months of the academy on $25,100(equals to about $630 per bi-weekly paycheck).. you are not really gonna make it with rent typically ranging from $800 for a crap studio to $1400 for a 2 bedroom apartment, depending on LOCATION.

If you want to dodge bullets while going to work and coming home, then you can look at rent in the $600/month range for a studio and $1000 for 2 bedrooms.

You can probably score on getting a room mate but goodluck!

If you go to the NYC DCAS website, www.nyc.gov/dcas

there is info on nypd testing. I believe you can take it 5 days a week now and is a WALK IN EXAM.

That's what one of my Army buddies did. He was putting around not doing a lot...had no money....but wanted to work for NYPD when he got out.

He ended up going overseas to work a PMC contract....saved a bunch of cash up.....and got hired by them (he took the test before he left) when he got back.

He said the other night that was the only way he was able to do it on his own. Most of the guys he is buddies with from the Acadmey ended up living with Parents/friends/relatives to make it......
