:(
Hi guys...
as some of you know, I've got my fitness assessment on february 6th. I've been working hard for it, but there are still some days where I feel so darn weak - it is really discouraging.
In case you can't tell, today is one of those days. Really struggled with my pushups today, and I'm not feeling so sure about myself anymore. Do you work out on a weak/sore day, or do you take the day off and hope tomorrow will be better?
:::sigh:::

I just took a fitness assessment this past Saturday, then went for a jog on Sunday. I've found that if you at least do a light workout on a weak/sore day, it helps the weakness and/or soreness a little bit. Bananas also help with soreness, because they are basically pure potassium. It reduces swelling in muscles, causing the soreness to abate. If nothing else, adopt an aggressive stretching routine for weak/sore days. Over time, they will become fewer and farther apart.

Personally, I force myself through workouts on those "weak" days. I just had one yesterday. Once you've completed your workout you feel a lot better because you're not falling behind on your schedule, you pushed yourself through, and you can put it all behind you and sleep very well that night. I think that's my suggestion right there, workout and go to bed early.
Hope you feel better.

weak days usually tie directly in with your nutrition.
Work on your diet to isolate the foods that keep you in tune and focus on those.
Refined sugars and lots of dairy can slow a lot of people down. So can foods containing MSG.
Stick to the basic proteins, fibrous or starchy carbs from natural sources, and don't eat out anywhere until your test is over, if you can help it.
And, get your 5 pieces of fruit per day.

pretty much what blue said. I've noticed that when I lift on a day that I'm sore I feel better the next day. you're warming your body up and getting the blood flowing through your muscles to help them heal.

I would suggest at least a light workout. It will help with recovery.

How much are you sleeping? What are you eating? How much water are you drinking? How many rest days do you incorporate in your training schedule? Do you vary your workout intensity between heavy, medium and light?
The body is not a machine. You can't treat it as such. I know, I've tried. And failed.
If the body is legitimately saying "take it easy" then do so. Overtraining leads to injury which is a guaranteed way to get the rest you need but at the loss of all the gains you've made.

Theres a big difference between feeling "weak" and feeling "sore." Soreness comes and goes, and you'll get used to it after a while and get less sore.
As for weak, like a couple people have already said, its all about nutrition. Complex carbs are what will keep you from feeling that way. Oats, potatoes, brown rice, cracked or whole grain wheat bread ect. Thats it. Eat within an hour of your workout and you'll feel great. The ONLY times I've ever felt weak during a workout were when I waited too long after eating, or ate something bad, like white bread or juice.
