The city website doesn't give a good description about benefits besides pay, does anyone work for them and could give some insight (IE Pers, Contributions, Medical, etc etc)?

Any other opinions about the agency would be appreciated as well. Thanks in advance.

My cousin retired after 30 years recently. He is getting his 3%/50. I beleive they pay 7% towards their retirement. Pay isn't that good when compared to other agencies. They are in the middle of several sexual harassment lawsuits.

When I was with the ACSO, we had several Deputies lateral to HPD. Now I have heard the flow is in the other direction.

Hayward isn't exactly one the best cities in the Bay Area (IMHO). Have you looked at similar sized cities such as Pleasanton, San Ramon, San Leandro, Newark, or Fremont?

I currently work for a bigger department right now and I would like to stay with a decent sized agency. I had just never heard much about Hayward besides the lawsuit they were going through and was curious. I have heard nothing but good things about Fremont and even San Jose might be an option. Thanks though!

Do some research about Fremont they use an old staffing method that basically makes them still understaffed at full capacity, also the Chief told the press awhile back that FPD will not respond to burglary alarms.

SJPD is a big department, unfortunately I don't know to much about it. Definately take a look at BART PD, SFPD, OPD which are some of the bigger departments in the Bay Area.

I've heard nothing bad about SJPD but it is a large department.
I've heard Fremont has 1978 staffing levels despite the huge growth in the last 30 years. One applicant recently told me they have a hiring freeze. Don't know if it's true or not.

SJPD is a fantastic department. Several of our guys have lateralled over there and love it. They have nothing but great things to say about San Jose. All of the SJPD guys and women I have met have been solid, straightup pros, and good people to boot. If I was doing it all over again, I would have gone to San Jose.
