I have a quick question
my buddy is 18
if he goes to a party where there is underage drinking, but he doesn't drink at all
can he still get a ticket or in trouble for being there?

Yes. We call it Loitering where Alcohol is Dispensed Illegally.

I would never charge a kid with that. Id be more concerned with the drinkers. I was in high school once, thats the way I look at this job. Discretion is the greatest thing in this job. I doubt a lot of officers would write on that. Even in my small town, we got better things to do than write a ticket like that. The DA would most likely throw it out anyway. Kids are going to party, it happens, we all realize it. If the nondrinker was a DD, Id be much more satisfied knowing you actually had a DD.

known by the company you keep.
Unlike MaineSqueeze, we do routinely charge for that. I personally don't want the civil liability.

why go to a party where you know ahead of time that there will be illegal activity occuring?
yes, i know that question seems obtuse to the high schoolers, but give it about 10 years and you'll be asking the same thing.

I think my friend will stay home that night
to answer your question about going to the party, I want to make sure all my buddies are safe and don't try to drive home or anything like that.

If he keeps his mouth shut and doesn't get stupid, he'll go home with a warning to choose his company more wisely. If not, he can explain what happened to mom and dad and the judge!
