I had Day 1 today, which included low speed stuff (off-set lane, parallel parking, and driveway maneuvering).
Next week we have Code 3 and Pursuit driving. Can you guys give me any pointers as to what to expect from the courses? Or maybe what some of your experiences were like?
I already know the key is to listening to what the EVOC instructors tell you, and then doing it.

You answered your own question! Listen, learn, practice.

you can only listen. nothing else you can do . practice shuffle steering and have lots of fun during high speed pursuit. :) most people will have trouble with the accident avoidance (the 3 signals). hmm remember your entry point, apex, exit point in every turn. look ahead for any surprises and hazards, clear all intersections (use the yelp siren), remember to engage and multitask with the radio (if you have to use it). when i took it, some peoples failed to engage , meaning they didn't drive fast enough to catch up to the rabbit car, and it's a whole different ballpark with the sirens going, adrenaline rushing, and when you have to use the radio. i guess they already taught you about siren syndrome. don't let that cloud you mind. good luck ...it's lots of fun.

Listen to the instructors. Breath...Don't drive above your abilities. Have fun and..............don't get lapped by the rabbit car!:eek::eek:
Being a passenger in the rabbit car....will also give you a chance to see how to drive the course.
This is where the fun begins!!!! Enjoy.

Just try to get someone to videotape it! I got a HUGE favor a while back and got sent to LAPD's EVOC. That was the most fun I've had in a car since prom night. LASD's was outstanding, but LAPD's won, hands down.

Are you doing your EVOC in San Bernadino?? I did mine there and that was the best 2 days I ever had driving.
Have a good time and relax. Im not sure if you are already hired or putting yourself through, but the funniest thing my T.O. said was
"Have a good time, drive the **** out of these cars, because for some of you this will be the only time youll EVER get to drive a real police car"

Just listen to what the instructors tell you and you will do fine! They are the best at what they do and if you trust in what they tell you, you will do great.

Best advice I can give you is to grab a latte, a pair of shades and leather driving gloves. Prior to spinning your tires, be sure to to slap you instructor on the shoulder and holler "Let's get 'em boys!"
Honestly, EVOC was a lot of fun. Where else can you go 63 mph in reverse?

I was at the EVOC course at San Bernardino doing some motor training....... trainees drove two different cars into the guard rails putting both cars out of commision and sent two people to the hospital.
My pointer to the original poster.........try not to send anyone to the hospital as that is usually a failing grade:D
