What a disgrace to the Men and Women in Blue!

Rookie Cops
By APB Staff
Some rookie cops in New York City are wondering why the city pays people the who pull the strings on a puppet $7,000 more per year than those risking their very life as a rookie NYPD officer.

The city Department of Parks & Recreation is advertising the fact that it's looking to hire up to three puppeteers for jobs that will pay between $32,275 and $50,242 a year with complete benefits and union representation. That’s a whole lot better that the salary for a rookie NYPD cop, which is a measly $25,100 a year.

Retired NYPD cop Michael Fandal, who moonlighted as a children's party clown, was outraged by the job posting, and called for the city to stop playing around with police pay.

"I think it's sad that entertainers are being paid more money than starting cops," said Fandal, 57, who now works as a substitute teacher in the city’s schools.

"Looking at it from the police officers' point of view, they're risking their lives out there while puppeteers are getting more money for entertaining a couple of kiddies at no real risk.

"I think this puppet job will tick off police officers that their risks are not being appreciated," Fandal added.

Some critics say that the disparity between puppeteers and cops can be blamed on an arbitrator’s decision to pay $25,100 to a newly hired police officer in the NYPD. After six months the jumps to $32,700 and after 5 1/2 years on the job, the pay goes up to $59,588.

The latest contract between the NYPD patrol officers union and the city has expired and contract talks have been stalled over a multitude of issues including low starting pay for new hires.

As much as I agree with all of that, the same could be said for nearly ANY job out there. NYPD gets paid poop as we all know :(
Let us just continue to hope/pray/whatever you do to make things work that they new contract comes soon and is significant. (I am not holding my breath for either)
GBOTJ coulldn't have said it better

Sorry but Reality vs Movies is completly different, when you have an entertainment industry that has the $ to pay Millions of dollars. You know that $25 DVD you buy? Only Cost .50 cents to produce and make! We are all in the wrong buisness but then again, we are all ype A personality and do this job "for some reason" lol. I do it for the entertainment that I see the general public do!

I talked to my friend recently, hes a NYPD officer in the Chinatown area, and he was talking to me about the possible pay raise. Basically from what he said, it was approved for the SGT's and higher ups, but are still waiting around to see if it will in fact be approved for the PO's

I honestly think that the PD is going to get the same contract as the DOC, or perhaps 8000 less than the starting pay of a sgt. Bloomturd is crying broke , he is definitly anti cop, and I think he would rather put any surplus money into keeping people from driving south of 96th st.

I agree, I remember reading once that Bloomberg was quoted as calling the Fraternal Order Police a "Fringe Organization" when they objected to him opposing the Tearheart Amendment. I'm at work right now so I can't provide the actual issue, but it shows where his priorities are.

"safest city in america"...

yea thanks to the all the cops!

without them, people would be scrambling to run for the hills outta this city. Without the cops on patrol, tourists would not come here and keep the city drowning in a tourism income, as well as keeping the businesses alive and thriving.

A short 15yrs ago, midtown manhattan was a craphole. LOOK AT IT NOW!
