I was wondering if anyone has more information about obtaining graduate education will working with the NYPD. The NYPD website mentions that 6 scholarships are available and 9 colleges offer tuition reduction programs.
1) what are the requirements needed to obtain a scholarship?
2) what are some of the colleges that offer tuition reduction programs. I assume some CUNY, but what about any others?
3) can you attend non-criminal justice classes (i.e. MBA)
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I remember looking into this, I think they only help you for your Undergrad.
I looked into it because I want to go into Law school while working for the NYPD. let me look into it again and I'll let you know.

6 Scholarships
9 Colleges offer tuition reduction programs
*Officers may apply to receive 9 paid Educational Leave days each semester while in graduate school.
* Paid excusals in pursuit of academic studies, in addition to vacation.
oooooo, that ok I see now.
mostly likely the tuition reduction programs are with CUNY schools.
I know John Jay College of Criminal Justice has this with them because that's the school I looked into.

And those scholarships, you'll prolly need a hook for, just like anything else in PD. The only free tuition thing that NYPD does have is at John Jay..you can take up to a certain amount of credits, undergrad or grad free of charge...the problem is that its only in Police Studies. No offense to people that are CJ majors, but you learn everything in the street anyways..why go to school to learn what you'll learn for free at work?

While not an MBA, Marist College offers an MPA (Masters of Public Administration) in a cohort program at the police academy. Classes cost a fraction of what they would if you weren't in the program. You take one class at a time and it usually lasts about 2 months for 4 hours 1 night per week.
Here's a link so you can get some more info. http://www.marist.edu/management/mpa/cohort/index.html
