Can anyone tell me whether or not class 175 which starts feb. 5th will be on a 4-10 schedule vs. a 5-8 schedule? Today while getting my county id photo I overheard several different conversations that contridicted themselves and wanted to get the straight scoop on this. Lastly, is their anyone that is housed up in the dorms?

they will tell you when you have the academy meetng/instructions prior to the academy, but i'm pretty sure it's 4/10's.

I have been given a list of things to get to include boots, flashlight.
does woodcrest offer competitive prices for these things? And other than personal interest, is their a specific type, size flashlite we need to get for the academy? I appreciate any help?

woodcrest is a pretty small store, i don't know where you live but inland uniform in riverside seems to have much better selection for boots and other gear.

I would stay away from WoodTheft unless I had no other choice. Their prices are high and my experience w/ their customer service sucks. The only business they get from me is when the Department issues me new uniforms, Nothing out of MY pocket. You can get much better prices by shopping around online. Inland also has decent prices.

Save your cash and just buy a Surefire G2 Nitrolon light. they run about 30 bucks, and you will get through the academy on just a few sets of batteries (as long as you dont "play" with it too much). It is small enough to fit on your belt, and will work well for you.

Oh yeah. I have seen the price range as low as $24 to about $39.
It will be more than enough flashlight for the academy. If you decide you want a more expensive light, wait untill about week 20 and drop "graduation present" hints to the family.

LOL 4/10s in the academy? When I was in the academy we showed up at 0445 to be ready to march onto the grinder to clean it at 510. Class ended around 1830 or so and then we did PT. On Wednesdays we had a particular T.O. who was one of or PT instructors also. On these days he let us do PT during the day so we could go home at 1830.

I got home around 2000 to 2030 on the other days and we went mon-fri with 1 day per weekend for community service projects. Those alternated every other Sat, and every other Sun. Add in the 2-3 Memos, hand written, every night.

I wished I would have went through an S.O. academy were they dont want to pay anyone overtime so they send them home ontime.

Oh well, I dont think the harder academies make better officers, I just get jealous of how easy things are for Boots these days hehe.

Yeah, roger that...I was at BCTC when I noticed that an academy class was wearing Class C uniforms...I spoke to an academy proctor who came from my station and he told me that the Dickies "milkman" uniforms were 10-7...Half the daily battle was getting those things squared away!

I booked someone in at the downtown jail yesterday and was talking to a sworn jail deputy... He told me that a higher-up advised the jail deputies of a new trend in patrol operations: All academy graduates will be going 10-8 straight from BCTC and those deputies still in custody will have to standby for up to four years to rotate out! I've been unable to confirm this but if anyone has further feel free...

I just had a meeting with Personel on Wednesday.
You are correct. The majority of class 173 (graduates Jan 23) is going 10-8 to patrol. Very few into detentions. They are having problems with "experience" in the jails. The days of 16-18 months in the jail are gone.
Now it is more like 24-36.
BCTC will now have "cycles" where on one class, the majority will go straight out to patrol, and on the next, the bulk will go straight to corrections, and be there for up to 3 years.

I am assigned to the 175th class scheduled to start 5th of feb. So what should I expect to happen for my class, corrections or 10-8?

SoCal, you gotta be kidding me! Experience, for what? Taking a 242 in the holding cell? I'm no manager but I think the jail deputies might resent the fact that these boots stand a fair shot at being their FTO's when they come out...

10-4. In fact, I know of 2 instances where a Deputy who went 10-8 from the academy is now an FTO for his classmate that went to the jail first. Talk about tension.
Hell, I saw a guy from MY junior class in the jail the other day. HE is ALREADY AN FTO!!

I agree it is rediculous. If Any of the local PD's had an HDT team, I would have left already.... 5 of my classmates from my station have jumped ship already. Murrieta is paying well....

To top it off, I was in class 167. 1/2 of my class that went to the jails went 10-8 in October. At that time they told us the rest of us would push in January. Now we are being told that there is no way we will see the street before August (almost 30 months).

While I dont agree with it, I can see some of the reasoning behind the descision. Yes the jails is a good place to learn, but after about 18 months you start to get "bored". Slap and tickle in housing, find some pruno, take 30 min to write a "no prosecution desired" report and go back to work. Very routine. Can't get supervision to authorize schools or classes because they all say "you'll be leaving soon" and your next station will have to foot the bill. Very frustrating.

The part that chaps my hide is the fact that they did it in the middle of my class. Should have started with one entire class and moved on.
